Well, I just purchased (from eBay of all places) a cute lil' (3" from tip to kick) tanto. Guy who sold it to me says it's a PC, from 1985 (which I believe was the last year they were in business as PC, right?) Anyhow, I wish I could post pics, but I don't have a digital camera or scanner (speaking of which, anybody have recommendations for a decent one that won't set me back much?) Anyways, I'm getting off topic... I knew this was gonna come used, and scratched up, which is fine with me, because I was gonna use it, and carry it...Only problem is, the handles are pretty loose, which is irritating, makes manipulation more difficult (as well as almost impossible to quickly lock the latch). If it was a jag or something I'd repin it, but it's not...This is my first bali that isn't a china cheapie or BM-Ti series, anyone have any tips or ideas to make this better? Or at least keep it from getting worse? :(

Thanks guys.

Andrew

Congrats on that Model 69. As for your question, it's the same problem as the "Blade Slapping" thread. There's a link to Balisongextreme.com that tells you exactly how to solve your problem.

Thanks Tony :) It had been a while since I'd been to Clay's site, I'd forgotten about his Tips & Tricks section. Does anyone have any experience doing that without a vise? I don't have one, and would rather get it done soon, but I'm worried that if I used a hammer it wouldn't turn out as nicely, because I did that to a china cheapie once and smashed the **** outta the handles. I could probably find someone with a vise though if I need to. Basically, do people recommend with vise or hammer more? Or does it not matter as long as you're careful? Thanks again.

I tried aligning my 45SHD and it didn't work too well, I'll try again but I don't expect any good results. The last time I tried to tighten it I clamped it in a bench vise and I put the handles (where the pins are) on a couple of flat spots on the vise and I started tightening, I continued to do so, very slowly (as to not break the handles) until I physically could not tighten it down any more (and I am not weak, I lift every day ;)) and I left it like that for a few hours, I came back and it didn't change one bit. :(

Cameron: Don't be surprised. It've tried with the 44S I recently picked up, and I got the same result. Those must have came out of the factory with the pins welded shut. Still, makes for a really fast flipper.

Andrew: I only use the hammer method as I don't have a vise. It's as Clay said; all a matter of hitting the pins dead on.

i've used a hammer for this once. i hammered _VERY VERY_ carefully, i almost let gravity alone be the hammer force. and for about every 5th punch, i flipped it a bit, and examined how the handles were at the moment (is is very important to check how tight it is often, bacause suddenly it's kinda like -whoops- too tight, in one bang. (is anyone understanding anything of what i'm trying to say here? )
so i just wanted to say that the hammer worked out pretty good for me.
