I'm thinking aboug buyin a Leuko blade and a Puukko or Mora blade and putting G10 or Micarta handles on them.

What's the best way to go forward? It seems like the options are:

*get G10 or Micarta plates and carve out a recesses in each scale for the tang and glue them together and shape them to fit my hand, or

*get a G10 rod, drill it to accept the tang and then shape it to fit my hand.

I've never done anything like this before, but I think I can do it. I think it would be a fun project. Any advice?

The other thing you can do is cut squares out of the g-10 or micarta and stack them. You could mix the materials up too, using say a bit of black, a brass spacer (go to a hobby shop, they sell brass and all kinds of goodies!) soem black, brass, etc.

What do you glue G10 and/or Micarta together with? Plain old Epoxy or do I need something special?

Two part epoxy works well. I use Devcon 2 ton. You can get it at Wal-Mart etc.
If you are going to work Micarta, or G10, you might want to get a canister respirator, with at least organic vapor cartridges for it, and some cotton prefilters. That stuff is very toxic.

 I'm glad someone told me now--I would have probably have worn only one of those el-cheapo dust masks. Thanks!

I too use Devcon 2 ton, that stuff is a standard knife maker's epoxy, I think! It is good stuff.

The good thing about micarta/g-10 when you buy it is that it is usually pretty flat. So, just cut out squares and rough the surfaces up a bit with sandpaper backed on a hard block. By texturing the surfaces a bit, the micarta will grip the epoxy better.

Good luck!
