First let me say how much I enjoy Bladeforums, after being turned on to knives recently (Thanks, Tim F. and Jim M.) I spend WAY too much time haunting the trading forums, looking to fill the proverbial drawer. But this gives rise to a couple of questions, and I hope I am not stepping on any toes.

Sometimes I see "Knives Wanted" requests for readily-available production knives. I understand when someone is looking for unusual, rare, discontinued, custom, or hard-to-find knives, but why do people post requests for knives that they can buy all day long?

Also, sometimes I see knives offered for sale at prices that are higher than they can be bought for at 1SKS or other sites. Why is that? Again, I understand pricing for customs or hard-to-find items can vary widely, but this has me puzzled.

Thanks to anyone who can enlighten me. Let me reiterate that this is a question, not a challenge, and I look forward to learning a lot here.

As far as people looking for knives that are readily available is concerned, I think these people want to get the knives at a better price than they would from a dealer. Looking for one second hand can save a person some money, or they might be able to trade for it.

Some people pay too much for a knife. When they re-sell it they then end up asking too much for it. They soon learn that their price is too high.
