Howdy,

I haven't owned a tomahawk since I was 6 or 8. I had a stone replica hawk from Cherokee, NC. Dog chewed the handle to bits :(
Though I've been lusting after an American Tomahawk Roger's Rangers Spike, I've been looking at the Cold Steel hawks to try something out for cheap. I want to do a little chopping and give throwing a try. Are they good choices to start with?

I checked out a site with a customized Cold Steel Plainsman's Hawk. Lost the web address. I can't find this model online. Guessing it's been discontinued?

Any brandname suggestions for a new inexpensive toy for a newbie?

Thanks,

Diablero

Diablero,
I know the answer to your question! I've both some tomahawks from Cold stell and some from ATC.
There is a world difference! All the Cold steel Tomahawks I've owned had NO EDGE at all from the factory. ( I buy ed a Norse Hawk, a trail hawk and a Rifleman hawk). Their head become quiet fast loose from the handle and the overall quality is poor (with a big TAIWAN engraved on it).
After I broke some handles and didn't find any solution to solve the "loose heads problem" I ordered a Vietnam Tactical from ATC.
Believe me Buddy I saw the light! The world Tactical take all his signification when you take a Vietnam tactical in hand. It was Razor sharp, well balanced and it's a pure joy to throw! The Handle problem was resolved since it's virtualy impossible to break an acetal handle and you can chop whatever you want without it become loose!
Since then I ordered a Brend hatchet and now I have a Roger Ranger in order.Instead of buying 4 Cold steel tomahawk and be unhappy, make the step and order an ATC, you'll never regret!
