Here is my newest bowie sheath.I tried an antique finish because the oil showed some inclusions in my leather.I don't like the paste antique because it stays in the holes and colors the stitches.Anyway, what do you think and what can I do better-different?

The spot by the stud-frog is not on the sheath, may be a sun flare.

If that is the sheath we discussed on the phone, then you made things sound a lot worse than they are. That is a great sheath! The paste in the stitch holes... we forgot to discuss that. Use a clean brush, a shoe brush, a paint brush held tightly by the bristles, almost any kind of a semi stiff bristle brush will do the job for removing the excess paste.

The uneven coloring will "wear in" and level out quite a bit also.

You are doing great and progressing nicely and rapidly.

Yes Mr. Long,That is the one we were talking about. It does look a little better after using the paste and the finish. Thanks for the nice comments,It means a lot coming from someone that does such fantastic work as yourself.I really do appreciate your help and advice.

Will agree with Paul, overall a good looking sheath - as for the antique finish staying in the holes and coloring the thread - well that's what it's supposed to do, but then again it's not really a "good" aging method........that takes MUCH more to do it "right"...personally I wish they had never marketed the stuff under that name...........
here's good article on aging leather by one of the best and it's just a start.......
