Hey guys, you'll remember a few months back we were raising some money to go toward a Spare Tire-style power hammer for an American missionary named Mike Deibert who posts here. Mike teaches blacksmithing and knifemaking to locals outside of Managua, Nicaragua.

Along with money donated to the project, we also had a few makers offer to donate knives, and Schuyler Lovestrand was the first to come up with a completed knife. Here's the little beauty again:

The spec's on the knife are as follows: ATS-34, RC 58-59, mirror polished blade, Full tapered tang, Stainless pins, filed liner, Mammoth bone handle. Beautiful sheath, also by the maker.

Now here's the rub... The thread was shut down by the moderators because we were running an auction here on the custom's forum, and apparently that's "no bueno" as they say where Mike is. Our bad. So we went to ebay to list it there and just talk about it over here, but we were stumped again - apparently Ebay no longer allows listings for anything with ivory or related materials, even from long-dead critters like mammoths. Strike 2.

Now, I've tried repeatedly to get a hold of the moderator and or forum administrator to get some direction but to no avail. So, we're back, but this time this is not an auction. REPEAT: THIS IS NOT AN AUCTION! This is a non-auction. What's a non-auction? Glad you asked, I'll tell you. A non-auction is where you place non-bids and those non-bids are sent to my email address at: burt@burtfoster.com. Send your maximum non-bid. The non-winner will be sending his or her donation to Missionary Ventures Int'l and will receive the knife he or she did not bid on shortly thereafter, as though by magic. Remember, not an auction.

Remember, this is for charity which is certain to give hope to may families, many of whom will have small children who are at this very moment hungry and in need of food, medicine, shelter, and an education, and the only thing standing between those things and their meager day-to-day existence is a Spare Tire power hammer, the funds of which are being raised right here.

Is that too much guilt for those placing "non-bids" as well as the moderators who are simultaneously being begged for mercy.....?

Gracias!

burt,

being evil is easy, being good can be pretty exhausting. it's a strange world.

my funds are somewhat limited right now as i have some open orders (!), so i won't bid (although i like mr lovestrand's knife very much), but if you provide a paypal address (i could use yours), i'll donate a few bucks.

best regards,
hans

We forgot to include the size in the specs. The blade is 4.5" and the overall length is 9".
