Recently picked up one of the discount Impalas that Sierra had on sale, and it came in the mail on Wednesday. I must say I'm impressed... nice design all around. Good lines and great materials. I appreciate the spine textures at both the rear and forward of the blade--should be very useful for skinning. I also like the recess in the G-10 under the clip, which will make the clipped pocket grip extra tight and secure. No one likes to lose a knife in the field. Tip down is a plus to me, and the knife I received locks up tight. I'm looking forward to taking it afield this fall. The Impala is certainly another great knife that affirms the special place I have for Spydercos. Well done!

I think the Impala is a real sleeper. I think that when it is finally totally discontinued it will then be highly sought after. It has all of the earmarks of a "Classic to BE". However I think that the one without the Guthook will be the one that collectors will be coveting.

Personally I too am looking forward to using it this fall during hunting season. It to me seems like a C-48 Tim Wegner with all of the bugs worked out. The G-10 handle just fits my hand like a glove. Albeit I tend to like the Spyders that most people overlook or don't like otherwise. Just like the big C-44P&S Dyad. It was for sure an obscure model in it's own rite. But now one that goes for big bucks and will be a Classic for sure. I just wish that Spyderco would make a serious Fixed blade hunting knife.

I tried an Impala, nice knife, but didn't fit me like the Wegner. I do think it fell victim to the same "folding hunter" misconceptions that the Wegner did.
