I've just recently started into buying nice trad knives was thinking about stopping in at one of the NKCA shows in Kentucky this year. Just wondering if any of the folks here frequent these shows and what I might expect. Is it a worthwhile trip?

Thanks

I have gone with Tony to the spring and fall shows for 3 years now. If you want to see and buy old and new traditional knives, it's the show to go to. In a nutshell, it is collectors bringing their knives they want to sell and trade to one place. It's very much worth setting aside the time to go.

I would also add that people who like traditional knives should find a way to support organizations like the NKCA, specificially, becoming a member would be a small thing you could do to promote the hobby. I notice that the organization is not "getting any younger". Many of the people in the NKCA have contributed significantly and have paved the way for us that are relatively new to this interest. Tony Bose attributes much of his learning about old knives to the friends he has made in the NKCA over the years.

Heck yeah, it will be worth the trip if you love traditional knives.
I haven't been to that show, but always go to the NKCA show here in GA(Dalton), and its a blast. The show up there will even be better(larger) than the one here.

The one here is only 3 weeks away...can't wait:D

I made both the Spring and Fall shows last year. There were alot of dealers who were cutting some great deals. If you get the chance definately go, its a first class operation all the way.

You'll love it:thumbup: The first time I went to Louisville I was almost faint with excitement:o I'm thinking about hitting the spring show again this year after taking a few years off. Louisville is wonderful in late April.

Cool! It sounds like I need to plan a day at this show and also bring some extra cash. Thanks for the info.

I'd try to give it at least a day and a half if it's your first major show. I went four years in a row a while back and I liked arriving at noon on Friday for scouting and making a day of it on Saturday. While it's true there will be a lot of "cleaned to mint" or "Kentucky Mint" knives there are still some finds to be made. I picked up an awesome Keen Kutter Congress the second to last trip I made and took it back to Missouri where it belonged:D

Good point, which brings up another question.
What is happening wih the NKCA? There was an election and then shortly after the newly elected official just walked away. What is being done to fill his position? Is the NKCA just going to implode??
