So I figured I would post this here since this is where I spend the majority of my time. *PLEASE REFRAIN FROM TURNING THIS INTO A POLITICAL THREAD*

I know gun sales have skyrocketed as have ammo sales recently, but this is getting silly. Do your local stores look like this? My dad and I usually buy ammo monthly and have been all over the place trying to buy some, not stocking up for WWIII or anything, we just like to keep it on hand so we don't have to go get it when we want to shoot. Plus it is nice to just have a good amount around for situations like this, but we can't seem to find any ammo anywhere. I have been to Northern California recently and it was the same in every gun store I went to, naked shelves where the ammo should be, and empty cases with no guns. Are things the same way where you are?

That looks just like the ammo shelves of the Walmarts here.

By the way, I checked ammoman.com on Saturday to see if they had any .38 Special ammo.
They had some Speer TMJ in stock. This morning, they are sold out again. :(

It's not at all like that where I'm at. A few less of the cheaper guns and the AK/ARs on the shelves (they still get shipments, they just sell out faster than they used to). Still plenty of ammo around, I've not noticed any difference, although I don't shoot .223 so I can't really speak to that. In fact some of my local stores seem to have a bit better of a selection in stock in some of the odd calibers that I shoot (7.5 x 55 swiss and 7.62 x54R).

Maybe try heading over into Nevada, I have a feeling you might be able to find what you want. Or buy it online.

I guess I should clarify. The shelves always look like that at the Walmart's and Meijer (regional Walmart like chain). They have for several years. However if I head over to a Dunhams sporting goods they always have what I need, and the prices aren't much higher.

This is an awful time to buy guns or ammo.

I think if we give it about a year to a year and a half the prices will drop and also there will be a lot of guns sold that were bought in haste and some real bargains.

I'm hoping for this too, I'd love to be able to pick up an AR in a year or so for half of what they're going for right now.

It's getting to be that way. I'm in the process of slowly getting my stocks up, and it's getting harder and harder to find what you want. The last couple of times I've tried, 9mm has been completely out of stock. I went this weekend and "ye olde gun shoppe" had 9mm in stock, but were restricting sales to 2 boxes per customer. They were completely out of 12 ga. buckshot, except for the super expensive Hornady TAP stuff- which is like $27 for 5 shells.

It's time to stock up if you can. It's a little bit harder to get what you want these days- but it could get a lot worse.

I hope you're right.

A lot of gun stores are low on the most common ammo. Just yesterday I was in the cheapest place around here. They were all out of 9mm, and .380, and .32 auto. They still had some .40 and had a good stock of .223/5.56 nato etc. If things go bad, I sure don't have enough ammo at all. I try to pick up a box here or there just to have some on hand.

I don't see ar or any other military style fire arm getting any cheaper any time. I think the prices will continue to remain steady, or go up again.

Yeah, limit restrictions and stock flying out of the door the hour it comes in is the same here. My dad was telling me even .22 was in short supply, the guy at walmart said he had seven 500 round boxes and a guy came in and bought them all. I haven't seem much buckshot here, but in Northern California I bought a couple of boxes.

I have a ton of 30-06 and .30 cal for a M1 Carbine I got from a friend who got them from a elderly co-worker who wanted to get rid of it, along with other ammo. Trouble is I don't have a M1 Garand or a Carbine for the ammo!! (Yet). I have a .22 coming out of my ears so I guess I can make up for stopping power with quantity lol

Looks like my local WM. SUX! I only have 20 rnds of .40! And my store's out! GRRR

No, I was in Gander Mountain and my local mom & pop gunshop, twice each this past week, and they had plenty of guns and what seemed like plenty of ammo...although it was all behind the counter (except for .22 and 12 ga) not out where I could handle it.

That's right- I forgot about .22. I tried to buy some .22 on Saturday and they were totally sold out of .22- all of it! I need to get a couple more bricks of that stuff.

Sold out of .22lr? I never would have guessed.

Its getting pretty rough here in Slow Cal... I couldnt even find 45-70 ammo for my new guide gun at 3 different local stores... They were all similarly wiped out...;-(

If Obama and his cronies have their way, you won't be able to buy an AR for any price in a year or so. :grumpy:

it's the same here too Christian...:( as sad as it may be..:thumbdn: these are tough times, but i never thought i would see the day that this would happen...

About 4 or 5 weeks ago I was in Cabelas Hamburg. People were buying ammo like crazy. One lady was piling it up in her baby carriage next to her kid.

Seemed kinda stupid to me. I am all for stocking up, but not much more than what you could use in a year or so. One stroke of the pen could make it all over and you are out all the money you have spent. Especially if they go the "serialized ammo" route. If that happens they will likely set a date where unserialized ammo or ammo making components will become a folony after a 1 year grandfather. If push comes to shove, you are not going to use more than a years worth anyway because you will not be using it up target shooting. Stockpiling 5,000 rounds of .223 just doesn't make sense.

Heck, they were out of .35 remington in ANY bullet weight for cripes sake!

:thumbdn:Its nuts when a guy can't find 22 ammo but it would appear that the "SHORTAGE" is farely common, here in the Bible Belt of Americas Heartland it's the same empty shelves(especially hand gun and 223,7.62among others) and the "scare " is on!!!!

This "encoding bullets" :barf:thing has got alot of folks on edge:confused:.

Turn your ammo in (trade) for new yea right!!!
Tell all the criminals that and see how far ya get!!!:foot::eek:
Yea I said it so go ahead and Hit me!!!:)

Yes. I tried to buy some 9mm at Wal-Mart last week and was told they are out. I said "I'm not after the bulk pack, I want Hydra-Shoks." The reply was "We are out of 9mm - all of it." I asked when they would receive more and was told that she did not know but it would not last long.

Most of the places around here are very low on stock, but luckily there's a Cabella's near me, and it still has a reasonable supply of ammo.

Seems only certain caliber are sought after. when I posted a thread for trading 160 rds of new in box AE 308, not one peep for 2 weeks.
