When will I learn?!

It would've been my first custom knife, but I was too slow on the draw. OK ... its a poor man's custom, but I was excited about it. I phoned and e-mailed my heart out, to no avail. Nobody at Marble's answered my calls, nor did they respond to my messages. Same score with e-mail.

Today, I learned from Bay Shore Resort in Gladstone, Michigan (also a Marble's retailer) that in addition to Marble's recent cutbacks in product offerings, custom work in the knife shop has been discontinued. :( Bummer. You would think they could post a message to that effect on their website.(?) It appears that the "bean counters" have taken over.

On a brighter note, the lady (I forgot to ask her name) at the knife shop was beyond helpful and friendly. She was great, and she's gonna send me two knives in the morning!! (A Mini-Expert in stag, and a leather stacked Plainsman with the longer Scagel-style stainless guard.) Sorta like "Take two knives and call me in the morning!" I feel better already. I'd recommend that you check out their really fine website if you haven't already .... www.bay-shore-resort.com

Also ordered a cute little Marble's #64 Sportsman in stag, that I found at a far less neighborly shop. In just a few days, the cardboard around here WILL catch hell! Better'n Christmas.

I love Marbles knives. They are among my favorite production blades. But I am disturbed by some of the trends I see in their management decisions of late. They seem to be cutting back rather than adding to.

I know all of these things are financially driven, so I guess we all need to be buying more knives from Marbles.

I'd hate to see a good company go down.
