Well I got my first two traditionals and I'm digging them. First was a Orange Bone Wharny Tiny Trapper that I gave to my dad and second the Swayback Jack I kept for myself. The Swayback is great but both blades are a little off center when closed. Do you think I should send them in? Or is the common and acceptable? Thanks.

I don't think it is uncommon for production knives to be a little of center.
However, if they are a lot off center or are rubbing, you may want to send it in. I guess it just depends on how badly it bothers you.

If its just a little bit and its not hurting anything, use it... After awhile you will probably forget all about it

I have a few of the swayback jacks in chestnut, bought at different times, and they all are slightly off center like that. On my user I was able to bend it slightly to center it. The other variations I have vary between centered and slightly off center.

None are rubbing and the centeredness is the same for both blades. By that I mean is that if one blade is centered, so is the other. If one is slightly off, so is the other.

The two that are centered are the less common stag/damascus and mahogany/ss versions.

EDIT: I took another look at the damascus one, and the main blade is very slightly off center. The pen blade is centered.

I have the CV version and a damascus one. Both are pretty centered. From my perspective slipjoints are working knives so as long as they don't rub I am happy. I did get my middle Son a green bone one of these and he said it was off centered a bit. Not a big deal to me. Now if they were custom or the Bose ATS-34 knives I would probalby want a better one. Use the heck out of it!

The blades in my CV swayback are off too, but not enough to rub, so I don't worry about it.

I pulled mine out of my pocket right now, and the wharncliffe is dead center and the pen is almost against the liner to the outside, just like Rick's there. I love this little knife.

It's a matter of how OCD you are...I usually send it back if it's a new production knife and off-center...just bugs me and I know if I don't send it back, It'll be on my mind. On older user knives, rub away baby

Thanks guys. I really like the knife and enjoy using it so I won't send it in yet. Maybe when I get one of my replacements I will but for now it's fine. BTW I sharpened and stroped her up and she slices like nobodies business. Awesome knife!

I received my CV sway back jack over the weekend and absolutely love it. The fit and finish are superb. The two blades line up just a touch off center, but not enough to make me worry about it.

I believe "blade rubs", "centered blades", and "wobble" issues are relatively new ones due to the collector influence on the market. Back in the day, nobody cared about that because they were going to use the knife anyway and it was going to scratched up.

I'm surprised when blades are centered on production knives and consider it a bonus. But, if the blades are hard against the liners, I think you should send it back.
