Any knifemakers in the Arlington to Front Royal area? I've been making knife's part time since 1994. I recently retired, and am beginning to put more time in to the hobby. I live in Arlington, and have a place in the Shenendoah where I have a fairly complete shop. So, if anyone's out there, pipe up, and introduce yourself.Maybe we can all get together sometime.

Dave

Dave, I'm just north of Northern Virginia in Martinsburg West Virginia. Straight up Interstate 81. I just started my knife venture two years ago and I still have a lot to learn. I am however, getting my shop outfitted pretty well.:)

I'm always interested in learning!

Chris

Hi Chris,

Sure, I know Martinsburg. My shop is in Delaplane, Va. Two years, uh? Welcome to the great world of knifemaking. I hope we can get a few more guys, maybe plan something for next spring. Keep in touch, Chris.

Dave,
I am in Amissville VA, I think I am 45 minutes from Front Royal. I have KMG grinder, Paragon oven, and no knife making skills what so ever. (I have a 3 year old daughter and hardly any free time)
I would be up for getting together some time. I am really wanting to try forging.

Let me know
Dan

Dave, you should check out the Farm Museum in Westminster MD. The Blacksmiths Guild of Cental Maryland meets there. There are some local knifemakers that gather out that way too. Real good bunch of folks. Good Luck.

If you guys get a group meet planned keep me in mind, I will be out there in the spring for a visit.

I'm in Linden, right outside Front Royal to the East on 55. I'm no Knife maker but am working on getting materials together to build a coal forge. I'd definitly be up for meeting up if you all get together for stuff. It might be a bit selfish of me but, I'd love to learn some things before I actually try to beat some steel.

David, sorry for the delay in getting back on here. Its been a bit hectic lately. Anyhow, that sounds good to me. I'll send you a friend request now that I'm thinking about it and its fresh on my mind. Otherwise, I'll end up forgetting.

Hi Guys,

Dan, how in the world did you end up with a top name grinder And a heat treat oven, but have no skills? Well, I guess all that means is you're off to a great start.

Ttoney83, Linden in only 4 miles from my place (the Marshall exit off 66.) Send me a friendship request and we will start planning an informal get to gether.

Chris, looking forward to getting your friendship request as well.

BV, thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.

Thanks for replying, guys

Dave

David, are you still out there ? If so, I have some questions to ask you about knife making. I live in Alexandria, VA. My email address is .... rytstuf@comcast.net . I can be called at 703.967.9697. Please contact me, J J

David's still around. Best to click his name in the previous posts and send him a PM .

Hey, guys. I live in Reston and don't do a lot of grinding anymore in my suburban neighborhood - I used to do some when I lived in the country a while back. I still enjoy making scales for Spyderco Mules and Scandi blades in my basement workshop.

Very cool. Do you make scales for folders as well? Also, I guess it'd depend on the material but what's the price range?

Hey, Don - I'm more of a hobbyist (with a day job) and haven't sold much of my work to date. I am getting ready to list several of my Spyderco Mule scales on the Forum, however. I normally make knock-down scales that are attached with 3/16" pivot bolts and no epoxy. I enjoy the craft of it so much that I continue to make scales even when I don't have any spare Mules to attach them to! So the older ones get removed and packaged up... If anyone is interested in a set for their Mule, drop me a PM and I can shoot you some pics. You can also check the "Show Your Mule" thread over on the Spyderco Forum - a lot of my work is shown there.

As far as folders go, yes, I've done quite a few folders - from modern re-scale jobs to old-time slipjoint rehabs. I don't have a mill, so nested liners are outside of my capabilities for now. I've never accepted any commissions - but might be convinced to help a brother out! :)

Like I said, Don - drop me a line if you want to chat.

Hi Guys,

I've been out of town for the past three weeks, without a computer. At the Harrisonburg, Va. knife show, Stacy mentioned this thread had come alive again. My life's been pretty hectic lately, and I wish I had time to get together with y'all. But there's no reason you guys can't arrange to meet, maybe I can catch up with you guys later in the summer.Oh, and sorry, I don't do folders at all. Tahe care, guys!

Guys, drop me a line. I'm in Fairfax, and am trying to put together a local group. I don't use this email address anymore, but you can catch me at muchsharpernow at gmail dot com.

I'm also in Fairfax. I've got little experience but I'm trying to learn as much as I can. Not much equipment, college student here, but I think I have valuable input as a sculptor and lifetime knife user :D
If there's a meetup, I'm in! cswan@masonlive.gmu.edu

Let me know if you guys ever get together. I am down in Burke by Fairfax Station/GMU. I am just starting out. Saving for a Wilmont grinder. Right now I only have a 2 x 42 Craftsman, Dewalt portaband with SWAG table, Drill Press, a custom made filing Jig, foredom flexshaft, kydex press and rivet press, files files and more files.

Nick Woo of Woo Metal works is in Herndon too.

Oh yeah. Nick and I both belong to the Blacksmiths Guild of the Potomac. http://www.bgop.org/ Our forge is in Arlington. My goal is to get into forging more, but I have young kids and don't get much time to get down to the forge. Anyway, if anyone is interested in bladesmithing, you have no excuse in NOVA not to do it. Forge is loaded. Join BGOP, buy $20 worth of 1084 and some files and sandpaper and you can get started. Plus blacksmithing is also cool and the BGOP are good people.
