Not really a Bushcraft review

I finally got a chance to take my first run Bushcraft knife to the woods on Sunday. The knife I ordered was natural micarta handle with the #3 dangler sheath. This is the first dangler sheath I have ever had and I love it ! I definitely want to get this style of sheath for some of my other knives.

After helping my wife clean out the basement Sunday morning I was all ready to get in the woods, but there was only one problem. It seems I had promised my five year old that I would take him out and let him carry his new Swiss Army knife. Well if he went his little brother definitely wanted to go. We also were babysitting my neighbors kids, so long story short, I headed into the woods with four kids ages three to five in tow.

With four little kids I knew that I was not going to be able to give this knife the workout that I had planned. It was about all I could do to keep them all together and headed in the right direction. I tried to make this a fun walk and point out some things as we walked. I showed them what a game trail looked like, what fatwood was and its use, found some groundhog holes, looked at deer tracks in the creek, cut walking sticks for each(using Cade's SAK), talked about being quiet so we could see the animals, saw a deer, and looked at deer rubs. To tell you the truth, a few minutes into our walk I was having a blast, and I didn't regret not getting to try my knife out as thoroughly as I would have liked.

About the only thing I got to do with the Bushcraft knife was snap cut a few briars and trim walking sticks. My overall impression of this knife is very favorable. The fit and finish was good and the blade came very sharp. This is my first Scandi blade and I liked it so much that I ordered two blade blanks to make my own. The only negative for me is the handle is about a half inch to short for my hands. I have short fingers, but wide hands. This is definitely not a huge thing at all, and is probably just a good excuse for me to order one of the customs.

Great job on this one Dan. It looks like you have a hit and deservedly so.

Great review, Chad!!!

"Always Be Prepared"

I believe that's a good bushcraft motto...

One that was taught and demonstrated without even having to unsheath your knife. ;)
