It finally arrived and after careful remove of the cardboard sheath I got my first look. Beautiful fit, finish, feel and looks just like all of the images everyone has posted and matches Dan's initial drawing to the "T". The knife comfortably rests in my hand in a number of holding positions. This bad boy comes SHARP, probably the sharpest that I own and I now know the meaning to hair popping sharp. Easily shaves arm hair. I had nothing to cut up last night because it was dark when I got home, but she should be broken in over the weekend.

I showed it to the wife and she had this to say - "wow, this feels good and is the perfect size. I really like the handle, what is this made out of". Those words coming from a non knife nut were pleasing to hear. My girls were also very curious of the handle material. The natural canvas micarta looks ahhhh, ahhhh natural, unlike my Bark River which appears to have some epoxy coating over the micarta.

Anyways I spent most of the evening making my firesteel handle (still working on it) and plan to get out to the desert and really test this baby out. Here are some pictures.

mine is a 5/16ths inch firesteel and barely fits in the loop I think a 1/4 is what the loop is made for. Im stretching the loop out over the weekend.

If you don't mind, how did you make that firesteel handle? It looks like cholla with some type of filler??? Enquiring minds want to know! :D

Thanks!

Thats pretty much it. Cholla cactus with plumbers putty as the filler and then a light coat of maple varnish. Now my daughters want me to make them one.

Great review and awesome pics!!

I would like to add since I got a chance to carry this guy out on a hike that you can hardly notice the weight of this knife, I think my firesteel weighs more. The sheath I got (#3) rode very well, near perfect and the knife was very secure in its pants. Also the spine really dug into my firesteel for a SUPER huge shower of sparks, I do not see any need in using the thumb ramp area for firesteel striking.

Again, as everyone has stated this is a great blade at a great price. People from the W&S forum area who didn't jump on board initially have stated some really great things just from all of the images that are popping up.

great comments...something we hadn't even discussed before...the weight really does make a difference in a bushcraft knife!
