Since it could be survival related, have any of you guys tried this "Tenkara" form of fly fishing? I know I am late to the party on this, but if you guys have tried it, or think its "b.s.", would you mind explaining a bit?

If you havent heard of it, basically its fly fishing with only a pole, line, and fly. Collapsible pole that extends from 12-18" to up to over 11'. Cheaper than fly fishing as well.

So is it like a fixed line to a pole, and you can only cast it a certain distance?

I looked it up and that is exactly what it is. I have not used that brand of pole but I have a few collapsible rods that I use for crappie and bluegills the same way. You can check some videos out at http://www.tenkarausa.com/video.php

Yup, I misspelled it (corrected), and yes, fixed line to a pole.

That's actually really cool...I'll have to look into it more, but I like the basic idea.
