Noticed in NYCity Courtroom

cool.

how can court personnel (with the exception of law enforcement) carry a knife in the courtroom? don't they usually consider those weapons.

Are you positive it was a 110 and not something like a stapler in a 110 sheath? The 110 is a lock back, if that's what he really had it's a wonder no one was injured or killed with it.

Most likely an officer of the court who would be licensed and authorized to carry a weapon.....certainly not non-LEO clerical staff.

Yeah doesn't sound quite right.

One of the huge concerns in courts is for people getting access to a weapon that someone else is carrying. Prisoners, their families etc.

Not saying what you saw wasn't real, but it strikes me as really odd for sure.

I'm on the opposite coast from NYC, but I've heard they have very strict knife laws in that city. I've seen in Seattle (nearest big city) what looks like a 110 only to find out it's actually a fancy cell phone in a case that looks like a 110 sheath. Also some sprays (like pepper spray or mace) come in similar sheaths

I'm not saying that you are wrong in your observation, but it would be interesting to know for sure.

In the NYS Court system, the plain cloths court clerk is actually a move up from the court officer position. After becoming a court officer you can either strive to move up in the unformed service of court officers or become the court clerk who does not wear a uniform, but is still an court "LEO" of sorts. The court clerk really runs mosts courts as he is in the same court room for years on end while most judges are moved around every six weeks. He may well have been wearing a Buck 110 as he is exempt from the restictions on carrying one. I am a former NYC LEO.....
