If you get written up by your boss for eyeballin knife porn while on the clock:mad:...you've been WARNED:eek:...it's not my fault:eek:

She was draped in a prim and proper sage coating when I snagged her off the Exchange last week...

After etching, stripping, decarb scotch briting, Mother's polishing, resharpening, Renassiance Wax application, and coon fingering my hand oil all over the milk chocolately tan micarta to bring the patina back post-Jasco...

<BTW...LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE WORK!!! VERY THERAPEUTIC!!!> :):thumbup:

Here she is ready to be turned out on the back lot to "work" :cool:

I believe all 'Squatches are 3/16" ~ 0.187" thick.

Is that a 0.25, or .187, thickness?

Mine mic'd out at .186" at the spine, above the choil

thanks for all the compliments...:thumbup::):thumbup:

I've had some reluctant strippers before who just didn't want to shed their epoxy veil-- like a sage Jackhammer I stripped-- I literally though I'd have to use a real jackhammer to remove large plaques of paint the Jasco wouldn't budge...

But this girl--- she was a saucy one :D....after a 15 min. soak in the Jasco Jacuzzi...she stripped down to her decarb drawers so quickly it made ME blush:eek:... I literally shook off most of the paint when I tapped the spine against my plastic dishpan-- the rest slid off with a plastic scraper...undressed in under 17 mins TOTAL >>>>a personal record :cool:

she yielded the gleaming INFI glory of her talon hole with the gentlest of probing...the pommel hole likewise wantonly surrendered it's paint to me ....

I warned you this was an "R" rated thread ;)

It's no state secret...the knowledge was freely given to me here so I'll pay it forward ...

There's many good ways to get the job done, just conduct a search...so my disclaimer is that my way is not the best way for everyone...
So it can be accomplished a number of ways...the most efficient way I've found is a Dremel tool with the 2 grades of little scotchbrite disc pad things. One is gray & coarse, the other is brownish & finer grade. You want both. Use a light touch starting with the gray. Try to avoid the secondary bevel-- it will foul your edge & eat up your pad. I run it with the grind lines at first, then at 90deg to the grind lines. You then can throw in some diagonal passes if you're feeling real zen with the dremel. They also make a little stainless wire brush that works well to dig out decarb in gouges. It's important you hit the dimples at various angles or you'll leave a lot behind. Repeat process with fine brown pad. Then I like using a green scotchbrite by hand to blend all the superficial dremel pad trails.

Finishing consists of using some cheap dental picks <Harbor Fright> to scratch near the handles and holes. Don't worry the cheap pot metal probes won't scratch INFI. I also wrap some 3M sandpaper around the narrow edge of a wood shim to sand right up to the handle. They flex down to sand flat little larger areas really well if you apply a little pressure. Plus you can cut them to custom fit into tight spaces. Find a wood dowel that fits loosely into the talon holes and wrap some sandpaper around it. Twist / ream the holes with the sandpaper wrapped dowel. If you got some stubborn schmutz in there, chuck your dowel in a cordless drill & satin it up as pretty as you please. I'm a little OCD with the corners, edges & holes.

For gilding the lily on the flats I've been using Renaissance wax to good effect lately...FrogLube is good too, just a little more time consuming. The Ren. Wax is quick & easy and easily reversible with mineral spirits + scotchbrite pad if you ever want to take it back to bare INFI...not sure if Ren. Wax is foodsafe...:confused:
