Friends--I just bought a NIB serial numbered black ATR. I'm thinking of carrying it regularly. Opinions?

Something has to be REALLY unique and special for me to appreciate it while it is hiding in a drawer. Basically something really old and rare or something from a kaput manufacturer (Schrade stash!).

Look at ebay. Very few things go up much higher than their original cost, so it's not worth holding $100 knives hostage in storage for a decade and getting no joy out of them. A black coated version with a serial number? Nah. Just use it or play with it like you want to.

I used to hate getting a serialized knife because it made me feel bad about using it, but I forced myself to get over that recently. If I am not going to play with it or use it or even look at it, I might as well be collecting things I don't want, like dolls or baseball cards.

most serial numbererd knives are worth at most a small premium over non serial numbered ones, it is cool though.

i have edc'd several numbered spydies, and numbered & prototype BMs.

Carry it or sell it. It's not going to be worth much more than what you paid for quite some time. Stash it away only if you're building a mint ATR collection.

Razz

I don't have any numbered, but I would carry them. I carry all my knives cause you know you won't have them forever!

Actually, I've imagined being buried like King Tut, with all my worldly goods and a couple of honeys in gold thongs to do my bidding.

Just kidding.
By the way, welcome to the forums, Axlis.

I would say, if you want to use it, use it.

To me, the only time Collector's Club numbers "might" add to the value of a knife is if you have a set, like the 4 variations of the Atlantic Salt, or some other logical grouping with matching numbers. Even then, it may just make for a dilemma as it would probably be easier to find multiple buyers who would each want one or two of them than to find one buyer who wanted the set as a set and was willing to pay a premium for it. You see that a lot with the larger collections that are sold as units. Inevitably the price they bring is lower than the total value of the individual knives, and they wind up getting broken up by the new owner anyway.

I have several number Spydercos that I use regularly.

In the past I tried to keep the majority of my knives mint, and only have a few users. I eventually came to the conclusion that keeping my knives locked in a display case was missing the point. Most of my knives are plain factory blades that I can replace easily anyway.

I say use it.

The real question is, why did you purchase it originally? Work on this to make your decision.

If you purchase it for EDC then do it, on the other hand if you got it to place on your mantle then there you go.
