Hi everyone,

I'm a 17 year old guy and I'm very interested in buying a combat knife from ebay. Now, I just read NY's knife laws and they don't say anything about how long the knife can be or whether or not combat knifes are illegal. Here's a link to the kind of knife I want

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7167373182&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWA:IT&rd=1

In short this is what it has:

* Total Length: 12"
* Blade Length: 7" (Stainless)
* Metal Handle
* Heavy Hard Plastic Case

Now, I would like to keep this knife in my house of self-defense, but I don't really feel like getting in trouble with the law. Can somebody help?

Thank you in advance.

It's perfectly OK to own it in your home. You can carry it too. There's no blade length limit. NY's laws don't make any differentiation between knife styles, so a "combat" knife would be just fine.

NYC is different though. Open carry is banned completely, and concealed carry is legal for blades under 4" of length.

No balisongs or autos in NYS altogether.

Be aware that local governments (aside from the state laws) have restrictions for minors regarding possession and/or carry of sharp implements. Check your city/municipality to be on the safe side.
