I live in NYC, Auto knives i know is illegal to carry. Knife is bigger than stander lawful size is illegal. Is it legal for me to purchase online and keep it at home for my own pleasure of owning? Or it is illegal for me to purchase online as well? I know after 911, there is a great tension. all mailing package will be examed. i don't want to cause any unwanted trouble because of my collecting pleasure.

But what i wish to own next will be a bechmade 630 skirmish. i have been "looking" at it for a long long time. now i have decided to get it, but the law makes me wonder. I am not sure if it is too big. Does kareshaw dojo consider as a "gravity" knife. it doesn't use spring, but it does have quick release button.

i have read above link. nice stories, but nothing saying about if it is ok to purchase online or not.

Hi wuyeah. I expect that few of us forumites are qualified to give legal advice. But it seems that if you just keep it at home, there's not much anyone could say to you about it. Does anyone think differently?

Common sense and liability issues indicate that we should not advise or lead any member or viewer of this or any internet board to do something or anything that is illegal or less than legal.
That being said, one could easily find ways around laws banning the ownership and trade of auto knives. However, if one is caught for any reason, even if it's in a drawer in your home, expect to feel the full brunt of the law. New York City cops are not prone to look away as more arrests=more promotions=more money. And since the cops here are among the lowest paid in the nation, expect them to have no sympathy for you.

If you have to ask I think you already know the answer. The gullag of NYC has very strict regs about all kinds of guns/knives/ etc.

Ofcourse you can buy knives online and keep them at home for yur pleasure. I had the BM 630 myself for about a week. Its a large folder and one that I would NOT carry in New York City or any of its boroughs. If you do choose to carry it, you better have a good reason for it. Try and keep the blade length to four inches if you plan on carrying.

KSECE, you know just enough about the law, to get yourself into trouble...

the length is under 4 inches, which means at 4 inches, it is illegal.
There are provisions which allow a police officer, at his discretion, to deem shorter knives illegal, while there are provisions that allow you to have a longer knife when conducting certain business or activity.
