Visiting NYC again, job purposes. I need to bring a blade along, I'm wondering if a small neck knife with a 3" blade would be ok to carry? According to NYC laws it's fine, I'm just looking for some opinions. Im also wondering if i should carry it concealed (probably right) I would be using the subway by the way. Thanks

Part of my work line is when I'm in NYC, I'm gonna be in need of a utility knife. The neck knife I'm looking at is much smaller than the one you reccomended, thanks though.

i know they dont allow concealed carry over 3" blade, and the DA has a hard-on for all one-handed openers classifying them as gravity knives, because they can be opened by centrifugal force (even though they cant because technically centrifugal force refers to inertia, that the force applied must equal the weight of the object). Long story short, new yorks district attorney can kiss the tip, but i wouldnt carry anything over three inches concealed; even though i do when im there ;D i don't think they have laws against sheathed, unconcealed carry.

New York City's DA is a complete idiot and will bring you up on charges is my guess. From what I've been reading he apparently thinks that all one handed opening locking knives are gravity knives and should be illegal. My guess is his view of fixed blades isn't that they're legal either. NYC's laws on paper seem reasonable, but in practice the DA is alienating all knife users by trying to make it so basically every knife but a slipjoint is illegal. Doug Ritter and Knife Rights need to kick this guy's ass because up here in Western New York half the retailers won't ship to me even though I'm (thankfully) not under Cyrus Vance Moron's authority.

Okay, sorry for the rant, but I'm really tired of this guy. Point is, I would get either a two handed opening folder like a traditional lockback or a slipjoint of some sort just so the police don't hassle you.

daggerman99,
Please read the sticky at the top of General.

The forum is for the discussion of knives. Discussion of knife laws belongs in the appropriate forum for knife law discussion.

 I live not to far out of the city myself and i've found that Manhattan has the strictest "laws". I have never had any trouble personally, but anytime I go to Manhattan, I carry a Sod Buster Jr, or BladeTech Mouse. The D.A. has even considered Buck 110's as gravity knives...its sickenning how ridiculous its become.:barf:

It should be completely legal, just make sure it stays concealed when not in use. It must be concealed. A fixed blade that's single-edged and under 4" should be OK. Did I say it must be concealed when not in use for a legitimate task?
Yes, the DAs office and any judges you come into contact w/ are liable to be corrupt, incompetent, or indifferent.
Even here in upstate I've switched to carrying a fixed blade. My local cops aren't going to bust me for a folder, but I don't trust the State Police.
