I am not much of a china production supporter, but I picked these up cause they really looked great.
These are prototypes of a 371 Stockman, 380 a Baby Barlow, and a 382 Mini Trapper. These are picked red bone and look amazing. They are engraved Proto and signed by Chuck Buck '06. They seem to have a brassy looking bolster, and the red bone is really nice to look at, here are the pictures...

Beautiful, historic and truly collectible!

You were lucky to get hold of them.

BG, I thought about your comments and a few thoughts came to mind. Does Buck have a sort of THINK TANK in China that comes up with new ideas. These being prototypes, Is there a chance that these knives were made in the US for future production in China, or protos made in China for chinese production. Anybodys thoughts on this matter would be welcome...

If the later, I think it would increase the collector value, IMO

I maintain that a lot of the first knives made in China for Buck will become sought-after collectibles in the future due to their high quality, fit and finish, beauty and the fact that many were or will be discontinued, which means they will be limited in their numbers.

Protos of these are indeed historic and collectible.

Buck's creative ideas, I'm sure, come from Post Falls.

As to where the protos were made......good question.

We should hear from Chuck or C.J. or Joe on that one.

Those are a worthwile pickup Matt, even if youre not real big on offshore(understood). Any Chuck signed proto is worthwhile and those look like pretty good Chinese takeout items.:)

I was talking with 300Bucks and He made a good point. He said these were one of probable a few that came off the line in China and were sent to the Buck family for approval, thus the PROTO eching and Chuck Bucks signature. This makes sense and fills that space in my mind in reference to BG42s comments with the words HISTORIC.
