Congratulations. Please be careful.

Okay, now. I've been thinking about asking my parents for a concealed weapons permit soon.

In most cases, there is a substantial age difference between when the first weapons permit, the driver's license (cars kill orders of magnitude more people than guns do), and when a concealed weapons permit can be issued. Laws differ by state. As I recall, Oregon will issue a limited driving permit to someone as young as 14, but you've got to be 21 to get a CHL.

In the state of Florida, and most other states that I know of, the age ranking goes like this:

15 -- Learners Permit
16 -- Drivers license ONLY after 6 months with a learners permit
18 -- Can purchase Porn, Cigs, Houses, Cars, and Firearms, and Gamble
21 -- Can purchase Alcoholic beverages and get a Carry Permit

I know there are older ages that can do things, like retire and get Senior Citizen discounts but I'm not sure what those are.

Yes, by all means, be very careful and don't take things for granted. Vehicles are very dangerous and demand your undivided attention.

Spend the next few years cultivating serious skill and mindset and then when you turn 21, go for it.

Congrats on the permit!! I remember the day well:)

Don, good to see you back in the bali forum!

What exactly does it take to get a concealed permit, and does anyone know specifics for NC?

You've taken on some serious responsibilities and steps onward toward 'adulthood'........As has been suggested, please take time to reflect on the what you've accomplished to this point and let it soak in for a year or two before you REALLY get wrapped up in 'adult' stuff like CCW permits. "Only a fool would wish away his youth", or something to that effect, Grasshopper........;).......Be careful, be responsible, and have a good time! Oh, to be young again.............and yes, when we get a REAL governor in the Great State of Kansas, who isn't afraid of letting law abiding citizens protect themselves, I'll be the first in line for my carry permit!!!

Do the concealed weapons permit cover non-sheath carry balisongs as well handguns? I'm not sure if belt-carry balisongs are legal hear in the great smogy state of Georgia.;)

Congrats on the permit. And good luck on the license. Depending on how responsibly you carry yourself through the process, and (knock on wood) your ability to avoid traffic mishaps, I think, will bear great weight for your parents to gauge your readiness to have something like a CCW. remember, the car can be just as a lethal weapon as a firearm.

I can't get one where I live (my user ID notwithstanding), but I've applied for one every year for the past 10. One of these days I hope they give it to me.

I recall few years ago, when I was stationed at the beautifull Camp Pendleton In CA, we were getting ready to step off for a field opp. They passed out the individual gear lists and on the list of what not to bring was a Ka-bar! They banned US Marines from having Ka-bars! The maddness is amung us...

>>That's pretty strange indeed. My personal carry In Country in 63-64 was a Kabar. Even though I was Army, Group Hq&Hq Co. personnel, when I sometimes did have to go into the field, I preferred the Marine issue Kabar to anything we had available at the time. A truely topdrawer piece. I even got real proficient at throwing it (into trees). It seemed to have a really excellent balance for doing so. I would have never thrown it in a combat situation though, I could never rationalize "throwing away" a weapon. Better kept in hand.

My dad was a Marine in the Korean Conflict era. When he came home, his Model-1 Randall went to school with me for a show n' tell when I was about in the 4th grade. It was the hit of the day. The times sure have changed. And not for the better.

Take care,

Phil

at your pic of the knife and the bali, what bali is that? and is it just me having trouble seeing, or does it not have a tang pin? if it doesn't, how do the handles stop?

Good job on the license Riallin! I hope many a chick get to go cruisin' with ya. :D And remember that peeling out may be fun, but I've never seen anybody do it and look cool at the same time. :)

Concealment permits are just not issued in Wisconsin. Even judges can't get them. But, they do allow open carry of just about anything. Walking down the street with a visible, holstered loaded handgun is actually allowed. Weird stuff huh?

It's an early Pacific Cutlery Company 5" Samson ground Kris with Cocobolo inserts in the handles. It most definately has a tang pin; just not visible in that photo.

Be very careful enjoying the newly acquired freedom of "driving".., keeping in mind anything that weighs 3,000 lbs or more going 60 MPH is in fact..., very dangerous!

Congratulations!! Even at my age I can relate to the excitement!
