I noticed "Oil the Joints" or "Oil Joints" stamped on the blades of some of the vintage knives made in England. Is this something that was done on knives made in Sheffield, England many moons ago or was it something with particular brands such as I*XL?

I have an Owl Head Trapper, with yellow scales, marked Solingen, Germany on the clip blade and Oil the Joints on the Spey blade.

Thomas Turner also stamped this good advice on some of their knives.

So, Sheffield England and Solingen, Germany so far. Just a Europe thing? Several brands now however. Any US makers use the term on their blades?

The current "Owl Head" knives have "Oil the Joints" and they are made in "Munich Iron Works", China.
if you live in B.C. this phrase has a different meaning.

I am pretty sure that Thomason started the "Oil the joints" phrase. He should get the credit..... JMHO.:p

He may have and he should get all the credit! I've seen a few members with the quote in their signature line but don't remember which ones. Pretty good signature line here in the traditional area.
