So I've been mulling it over, and I've decided I'd give a traditional pattern a try. I prefer single blade knives over multi blade patterns, and I'm primarily interested in natural handle materials. I want to keep the blade length around 3"-3.5". Blade shape isn't too important. I like drop points, clip points, wharcliffe's, etc.

I almost forgot to add that slipjoint or lockback will work.

I'd like to keep the cost around $50 if possible.

Any suggestions?

If you are looking for a working single blade slipjoint and want to have a fancier one they made some of the Queen Country Cousins (sodbuster type pattern) in stag with D2 but they are going to be around 4".

Most single blade slippies are larger knives these days. Take a look at a teardrop jack pattern. Those usually feel good in the hand and pocket, but might come in at 3 3/4" or so.

The Queen Copperhead, or I kinda like these Queen #11 slim single blade Utility knives.

A Case Cheetah Cub from Case's pocket worn series in darkish Red Bone. It is a mid size Cheetah at 3.5 inches closed and typical lock back design so she it rides very nice in the pocket for under $50.

sunnyd,

Where did you pick that particular model up? I don't seem to be able to find it.

Here is a Case Copperlock which is also a lockback model in natural bone that I purchased on eBay via an auction that I prevailed on..

It measures 3.75 inches closed and was just under $35. in unused conition and shaving arm hair right out of the box..:)

Hello Chris,
I got that one at the Bass Pro Shops in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida..

Chris here is one more Copperlock about the same size or slightly larger than the Case. This one is a bit more expensive at around $75. if memory serves but, its got a nice D-2 blade that keeps a wicked edge and some real purrrrrdy Abalone scales that just light up like fire in the sunlight and is in my permanent Sunday-Go-To-Meeting category..:) This ones got a liner lock that locks good and tight.

Hey sunny, do you ever smoke that Missouri Meersham?
LOL, I haven't heard anyone call my ole' cobb pipe that in quite a spell..:D
Yes, I do smoke that one on a regular basis.. in fact you just reminded me that I got to go into town as I am short on stem filters and tobacco..

sunnyd,

Stop, before I drool all over my keyboard:D. Lovely knives, I'm seeing why you guys like them so much. They definitely have character.

I've seen some Doctors Knives patterns available with a single blade. Most have two blades or a single blade with spatula.

The swing-guards, like the Cheetah posted above, are always (?) single blades.

The Old Timer Pal is a single-blade peanut. There are quite a few other Old Timer models with one blade as well, both large lockbacks and small slipjoints. I would buy the original Old Timers that were made in the USA by Schrade, not the new stuff made in China. Many of the models are common on eBay.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Once again I'm going to suggest the Eye Brand, Sodbuster your choice of yellow or black plastic handles or stag.
The hammer forging really makes a difference in steel strengh IMO.

Missouri Meerschaums. Got 4 or 6 around my own self. All of them smoked. While I've not been smoking my pipes lately, those cobs got regular use right along with my favorite briars. I may have to swab one out and toss in a 1/1 mixture of Carter Hall and Sir Walter Raleigh I've had melding for five or six months now. Then I can lightly scrape the ashes out with my CV peanut, while I think of you fellows.
