Since we don't already give away enough contest knives, here's a new contest. This contest will run from now until the last day of September 2008. Winner will receive a new RC-4 plain edge knife and a pink prototype Izula (no sheath).

Here's the deal: Since the RC knives are getting so much play now as primary survival knives, we want to see your best survival kit featuring an RC-3 or RC-4 knife. We will judge this contest on innovation, compact size, ease of carry, ability to provide survival priorities, "cool" factor, and just about anything else we choose to judge it on ;) Keep in mind that cool ideas and modifications to existing equipment (such as finding new uses for mounting stuff on the sheath, stripping out paracord for fishing line, etc.) gives you more points. But you have to demonstrate it in your photos and not just imply it. That should keep it real and not just be an implication that it will work. Knife does not have to be pristine, photos do not have to be pro. This is not a photo contest. It IS a survival thinkin' contest. Everyone can participate. That means Tony (a moderator here), Bear (who helps us in the jungle), George Bush, Barak Obama (I take that one back).

Post your photos and explanations of your kit up to this thread (do not email them to us). Enter as many times as you want. Who knows, we may take an idea or two from you and include it in a future project (with your permission of course).

This thread is going to become a working "think tank" for survival ideas. Encouragement and expanding on others ideas is fine, but do NOT criticize another posters ideas, photos, etc. since some folks are new to the survival game. In other words, if a poster includes the small clear plastic bag that the knife comes in and says it will work as a solar still and keep you hydrated, just let him have his idea even though we all know he's an idiot and is going to die should he ever need to get water in a survival situation :D

We will probably run this contest again depending on how this first one goes...so onward!

Jeff

Actually your Maxpedition thread got me to thinking about this. Not saying we're looking for BOB type kits. We're not. More along the lines of pocket kits and kits totally contained on the knife, sheath, etc....... but that thread did initiate this contest. Mainly looking for innovation and "outside the box" ideas. Feell free to re-post this thread so anyone who has a RAT Cutlery knife can participate.

Oh, and let me add this since I know it will eventually be asked: Building something to mount on the sheath is totally within the realm of what we're looking for. So, if you make a special pocket, etc that mounts on the sheath, or a special compartment that the whole knife mounts in, etc, then that really gets you brownie points in this contest! Again, just about anything goes as long as you use a RC knife.

Interesting link BlairB. Thanks a lot. Maybe we should get one started in the UK for our brothers across the Atlantic/channel

Darn, this is a fine time to have my RC-4 out on loan to my brother-in-law who'll pass it on to my brother next. Shoot, I won't see it back 'til October. Bro might just keep it for deer season. Argh!!!

Any contests for the biggest ignoramous :-(.

Might have to go on and get the RC-3 so I can play.

Ok here is my Green & Orange RC4 set up.let me know whatcha think,I going to take it out this coming weekend and try it out.

Tony, that DMT sharpener looks difficult to use. Am I wrong? Do you use a special technique? I use an EZE-LAP model M round rod.

Looks like a Ranger Band holding everything together on your kit? They make great fire starters once you get them burning and have a dozen other uses. How are you holding the button compass on to the Max pouch? Wire? Is it causing any problems with the compass? Nice kit, Tony.

Yes Jeff the ranger band holds the kit but I also have the paracord with cord lock supplied at the top on the sheath as a back up incast the ranger band fails.the compass is held in place by a single strand of para cord inner cordage, button compass is grooved and lashed to the tab on sheath fits perfect and the compass/sheath is facing N.THe DMT sharpener & package of snell hooks fit nicely in the back and securely.

Thank you......now for and Idea,Maxpedition makes a nalgene water bottler holder that could contain the water bottle, cup, pre-filter/purify tabs, and my set up would mate right on using the Molle lace or clips & I am sure I could fit a space blanket as well. Just an idea for the peeps reading

No. As long as the knife is part of the kit the rest can come from your own imagination. We have a lot of folks that make special sheaths for our knives so I don't think the sheath should have to be part of the kit. Besides, you guys may come up with a better survival sheath idea that we could possibly implement in production. You never know.
