Old 112 in New Box?

I was looking at a 112 the other day and unless my eyes have totally gone, the tang was marked "<" (as in 112<) which should make it 1986, right? The box was a current box, dated 2011, with current sheath and papers.

Is there any way Buck shipped NOS (NveryOS) 112s recently? I'm assuming I just didn't read the tang marking correctly.

Was this a new knife in a brick and mortar retail store? What store?

Not likely that Buck is finding and using 25-year-old blades.

Maybe you just missed a dot inside the <?

I think the last case is the answer, probably. The tang stamp on a 112 is SO small that I probably did miss it. The real thing that made me think "old" was that the chart I found shows a more rounded shape for 2011 (which is the date on the box) with the dot inside, so when I interpreted the stamp as more of a < than a ( I took it for the 1986 (IIRC) stamp. I'll take that as the answer - thanks! :D

Well, a dot is easy to miss.

It's actually worse when there's a dot (or dots) where no dot is supposed to be.

We've had years and years of dot mischief on this forum. The "Dot Madness," I call it.

Sometimes I think there used to be a Buck employee with a dot stamp who would cunningly add a dot every now and then just for fun.

:)

I have been playing with the camera and just took this one that shows a 2011 tang marking.

They are hard to see without serious magnification.

That's not a stamp......that's a cheap laser-scrawling or engraving pen mark.

Looks like they're using Chuck Buck's pen that he signs blades with.

:D

What has become of this once-proud company?

Or did you take a picture of a fake just for fun?

Unfortunately, that is how it is marked.

And no. Not a fake. The 60mm macro brings out the detail.

Good grief!!! Abomination!!!

May God protect us!!!!!

What model is that?

Its a 126. But I don't think you will find it listed on Buck's web site.

Oh.....well, I suppose that one would be kinda thin for stamping anyway.

Wonder if Chuck put that marking on all of them. Looks like his handwriting.

:)
