Got this old Endura with the integral plastic clip that broke in the mail this morning. This came up earlier where I dropped the ball and missed that it was a plastic integral style.

I'll be fixing this one up here shortly.

Here is a shot of it as it arrived.

Got this one finished with a blue clip as requested mounted and also I did clean up the blade for you as requested. I think it came out pretty good.

Keep an eye on these and just make sure the screws are snug. No loctite, no super glue, don't overtweak them, and try not to make a habit of removing it a lot and it should be fine for a long time to squeeze somemore service life out of your nice old user here.

On the way home in the morning mail.

Thanks

ha that looks good! I got one just like it. The clip is gone as well. Course, doesn't matter as the lock doesn't work either. In the dusty drawer it sits along side scattered pieces of old CRKT apache.

Why doesn't the lock work?? Describe that for me. It intriques me.

Cant wait to see it Steve. It may beat me home. I was in NW Arkansas visiting the big W. I stopped by Krein knives and got the VIP tour from Tom. Dan Koster was there as well. Cant work all the time. Steve I have a little souvineer from my part of the country that I am sending you as soon as I get home. You are good folks!!!:thumbup:

The blade clicks when its open but a small little tap to the spine will disenage the lock. Even when you fold it, like you would a slip joint.

Have you checked the lock contact for lint and gunk build up?? May be just a simple matter of a dental probe and cleaning it out. I see that a lot.

You don't have to do that but I do appreciate it. Dan and Tom are good people. I bet that was a lot of fun. I guess you met the guard dog??

Thanks

I can try it but not sure if it will work. Although the spring seems to be tight and functional. How do you suggest cleaning it? Its a full serrated Gin 1 endura.

You just have to look down in the notch for the lock to fall in when it locks open and physically remove any debris inside the notch.

Check the inside of the folder for lint in and around the blade also. I'd use a small screw driver and a rag like an old tee shirt and force the shirt up against the tang as you push with the tip of the flat head. Drag the rag around the tang, close the blade do the other side, and so on after cleaning out the notch and then blast with air.

Steve I want to thank you for my new Endura. I know its not brand new but still. I bought this knife in the early 90's, not sure of the year. It was the 1st knife I spent any real money on and I am sure you understand that. My son was 10 at the time and just getting into kayaking and me whitewater canoeing. This knife has traveled down the Nantahala,Tennessee,Nolichucky, and Chatooga rivers as well as across the Okefenokee Swamp. It is a miracle it is still here much less in the condition it is today. Thank you for the service you provide with your talent. That talent and love of knives and people shows with every picture you post. Steve you are good people. Chickenplucker

tried cleaning it and got some gunk out of there till the rag came up clean but with same slight preasure the lock will still close. No idea.

If its clean and still does this it almost makes me wonder if metal sheared from the lock contact area or the blade notch. Without seeing it there is just no way to tell and since its a pinned type it would mean taking it apart which voids any and all warranty. Have you contacted Spyderco?

STR

No I haven't contacted them as I figuared it was so old and used. I would take it apart just cause I'm curious why it would fall but no idea about those pins.

Spyderco will still look at that. The pins could be removed but it is tricky to do it and not mess up the FRN scales. Then after its out you have to redrill the blade pivot hole with a carbide for a 1/8" size and then using a 1/8" barrel with screws you replace it but usually its not quite that simple, you have to resize the barrel and screws to fit on most.
