"This specific example is 19th C. Kothimora of good quality. It has a heavy down curving blade of 11inches long, very well forged. The hilt is dark wood. The scabbard is wood covered with black leather, mounted with beautifuly chased silver locket and chape. The compartment for the two by-knives is missing. Total length 15 inches. Good condition. A chip in the pommel and partially open seams of the scabbard." They ask $415.

So sad the grip is damaged!

It's a lovely k, and the seller is a dealer of impeccable reputation. But given the lack of sangli and medallion, missing karda and chakmak, and damaged handle, I'd say it's overpriced by at least a hundred bucks.

Thanks for comments, Berk. Seemed kinda spendy to me considering the condition--but then I don't know anything.

Here's another that looks like a really risky buy to me--this dealer has some stuff up on E-bay, but not the khuk at the moment.

"18 inch Nepalese Kikru, Gurka knife, fine steel, with scabbord, horn inlaid handle, circa 1900, good condition. Minor damage to scabbord. $195."

My guess is it's from India, and also not 100 years old. Fairly useless photos.

"kikru" is a new mispelling to me, anyway.

Very nice...Have to sit on my hands when I look at it...
