A while back right before Blade, a friend who I have yet to meet in person sent me a very cool sailor's knife. Nice honest wear on this Camilus in good to vg condition.

Now I don't want to let the cat out of the bag on this "folksy" guy (that's a hint on who sent this to me, lets just say he coined the name for those who enjoy this subforum ;)).

Anyway he wanted it to go to a deserving knife nut.

While at Blade, I kept an eye out for a young 'un who might foot the bill, but nothing hit me.

If you have a young person in your life who would appreciate this 50 year old knife post something here and I will send you the knife. (Best post based on my pointed head decision get's it.)

Wow Bastid. You sure aren't living up to your name.

The generosity around here is amazing. I already tossed my kids' name in on a thread like this once before. Instead of sending a single knife, he sent three Imperials.

I think I've used up my good carma when it comes to these things so I'll let someone else get in on this one. Just wanted to toss you a  for your generosity.

Gus, I know of two watermen, one in Massachusetts, and one on Virginias eastern shore, who could use a good sailors knife ;). Very nice gesture from you and Steven.

I'll add my son to the list. He's 11, working on his Second Class rank in BSA-- with every intention of becoming an Eagle Scout -- and a knife knut. He's got a good collection of about a dozen pocket knives and one or two fixed blades. He's good about rotating his folders when he goes camping and usually good about coming home with them. :) Truth be told, his interest in knife collecting rekindled an old flame in me and I have begun building my own collection over the past couple of years with the intention of leaving them for him when I'm gone.

Oh yeah, he's a good boy too. Brings home great grades, plays football on a 2-time City Championship team and wrestles. And if he gets it, I'll send you a picture of one happy, smiling boy.

Na, You would have to have been around when the term Bastid was coined here. (Goes back to Tim Herman and DDR days).

Things like this are what real Bastids do every day.
(Bastid = enigma)

By the way, this time, it is not me that deserves the thanks. It is another "Bastid" ;).

My little brother would be a great candidate. I have put aside a Delica and 42 for him, but he really likes his SAK and slipjoints. The kid tried to build a fort with his Buck slippy, and not only ogles his knives, he uses the heck out of them. But what he really likes to do is fish. There are photos somewhere of him with a Scooby Doo fishing rod, and a big catfish, that he caught when he was ten. While his cousins play video games on the dock when my father and uncles take them down to the marina, he is on the dock fishing. He lives to fish, probably his greatest passion. He also loves to go out on my fathers boat, and is a hustler. He is a good kid, good grades, very smart, plays soccer in the local league, and my parents phone bill is going up, up and up from all the girls calling him (just thought I'd throw that in there ;)). He also puts up with his older brother, not only for the free knives, but because he loves him. Couple months ago, a friend of his noticed his Jerzee Devil sticker on his skateboard, and asked my brother what that was. My little brother said "this guy with tattoos gave me the sticker, he has a website about knives". The conversation drifted towards knives, with the kids talking about their knives. One kid brought up Busse, and I was amazed when my brother told me about his friends Busse knife, and pronounced Bus-ssy correctly ;). One of the kids was talking about his Buck sailors knife, a model that I had owned. So now my little bro is on a kick for one. I have been combing eBay and the forums for another Buck or a Camillus, and think my little bro would be really happy with this one. During the summer, he practically lives on my fathers boat.

Oh yeah, he's 13.

Already going to be a tough decision:o.

We'll close this on Oct 12 or 13th.

Did I mention that my boys loves to fish? Or that he's got a Jerzee Devil tatoo on his bicep and when he flexes it, well, it... ok, I made that part up. :) But he does love to fish and caught the biggest black bass I've ever seen at 13 pounds and a couple of red fish over well 20 pounds. (I just wanted to brag on his big fish)

Anyhow...good luck and thanks for the opportunity.

Contact the BSA and find a scout troop in your city that is in a low income area. Donate the knife to the troop as a prize for whatever contest they see fit.

Thanks, but I am sticking to what I want to do in the spirit of the wishes of the person who sent me the knife.

if my friends boy denver was doing better in school, he would be a good kid to get it but he's in the dog house. a few months ago someone broke into their house and stole his knife collection along with other items. he's slowly building it back up and i'm going to help him some when he gets his grades back up.

I forgot all about this.

Any others?

I know a good kid. My good friends son. He LOVES to fish and camp. He has a massive passion for the outdoors and everything about them. He just started getting into camping this year. Just kind of out of the blue. I think it has something to do with this book called " hatchet" he read.He was always telling me and his dad about it and the kid in it. Ever since he read it with his class he started getting into it. Infact this year he wants to start hunting. So his father and I are going to take him hunting. He is in 8th grade and is on the honor roll. He has already taken the saftey course for hunters and according to his dad " he is a real dead-eye" I think he deserves a good knife. he has a small collection of knives, which surprisingly for his age are mostly slippies and I asked him about them and he says he likes them more than tacticools. I really think he deserves this . Well thanks for the contest,
ace

Great idea. I'm going to do the same thing but with a Vic Cadet. My kids are brats but I do know someone that has a pretty good kid and has much less than we do. Thanks for the idea Gus.

Now this was a hard decision. So hard that I put every ones user name on a a piece of paper and drew.

Texas_slim - send me your addy and I will get this puppy in the mail.

Thank you for the generous offer. My son will be touched. As much as he loves football and wrestling, his true passion is for the outdoors. Fishing, camping and especially whittling an old stick bring him peace like nothing else. And as tough as he can be on the football field or the wrestling mat, he's a kind hearted boy who'll really be blown away that someone he's never met would do something like this for him. I think you'll be teaching him a lesson that he could never learn from his dad and I am grateful to you for that.

I'll do my best to post up a picture of the "Boy and the Knife" once it arrives.

What a really nice thing to do for a kid, I was given a knife by a neighbor when I was a kid, it was a single blade Schrade Old Timer, I had that knife for about 5 yrs. until it fell out of my pocket while fishing, That knife is one of the reasons I collect cutlery today.
