Oddly enough, Dan, this one has to be my favorite out of all the ones you've done. :p:thumbup:

Glad you like it, on_the_edge.

Hey, is this steel 'stainless'? I am unfamiliar with the properties of this steel.

Thanks!

No, CPM3V is very much a carbon steel. Just happens to be a SUPER steel as well. :D

High carbon 0.8%
Great toughness
Excellent wear-resistance 2.75% vanadium
7.5% chromium (not stainless...but not a rust-bucket either)

See data sheet here:
http://www.crucibleservice.com/datash/ds3Vv5b.pdf?CFID=1773616&CFTOKEN=57794617

The combination of wear resistance and toughness
offered by CPM 3V make it an excellent alternative to
shock-resistant grades such as S7 or A9 in applications
where they wear out too quickly. Or, it can replace wearresistant
grades such as A2, D2, Cru-Wear, or CPM M4
in applications where they tend to fail by impact, i.e.
chipping or breaking. CPM 3V offers the highest impact
toughness of any tool steel with this range of wear resistance.
