Asked on another forum but want to know what you guys recommend.
I just got this machete and want a good sheath for it.

Please help me out.

Thanks,
Chris

there are a few options.

Vec001, a member here works with plastics, and has made flat scabards for machete's. They look great, not sure if he is making them now.

There are many members here that work magic with leather.

A surplus canvas sheath would also work well.

I have only heard that the sharpener is bad on a good edge. Nothing else. Maybe someone who has actually owned one can help?

Thanks.... Is my question in the right spot? If not where should I move it?

What Ron said. A surplus canvas sheath would be good. I've never used a "sharpening sheath", so I couldn't say for certain, but the idea irks me. CST Berger has some generic leather sheaths you might find around the same price.

I've got a sharpening sheath for a AK bayonet I have, I don't really care for it... seems to mess up the edge more than anything...

Get the Ontario plastic military sheath. It is great and will last forever. stay away from any canvas sheaths. A sharp machete wil cut through them in no time at all just bouncing around in there. The "sharpener" on the military sheath is garbage and pivots out of the way so it is harmless and doesn't interfere. Make a belt hanger for the military sheath by just feeding a piece of nylon or leather through the slot in the metal hanger hardware on the back of the military sheath and sew or rivet the nylon or leather loop closed. The wire hangers can stay there because they don't interfere with anything either.

If any of the above isn't clear then just get your hands on a plastic Ontario military sheath and look at it closely and it will become clear.

+1. Had one at Fort Ord. The sheath is a good, inexpensive one for the Ontario machete, if all you're looking to do is transport and protect a user blade and yourself. It's a snug fit...stuff that gets stuck inside will scratch the blade; but you'll get that with any other sheath, too. Pretty easy to clean, you can immerse the entire thing in water. Don't use the attached sharpener; just tie it out of the way.

The thing is.......ontario NEVER made a sheath like this, I called the company and they confirmed this.

They are generic made for decades by different contractors for the Ontario and any similar machete.
A simple Google search turned these up. Any Army Surplus store in your town should have them also. Just ask them for the 18" hard plastic GI machete sheath.

Thanks...I've seen them, but I think it's strange that they use ontario knife company name.
