Anyone heard anything about, or have, this hawk? I have just recently picked up a couple of the Ranger knives, RD-4 & RD-7, from this series, and have been really impressed with their construction, plus I really like the looks of this hawk. There is a second one, minus the pick, also available. Any info appreciated. Here is a link to the one with the pick.....

I'm guessing these are pretty new and no one has one of them yet. Looks like a nice piece. Made from 1080 instead of what the knives are made of, 5160. Don't know if that means a lot or not. I know the RD series of knives are nice as I have a RD-4 and a RD-7.

anybody ever get one of these ranger hawks?.....just bumpin up this old thread instead of startin one....ryan:thumbup:

Pretty funny, I have been looking at exactly the same hatchet. One was on the bay recently for just over a $100 that didnt move. The only hesitation I have is the .25 thickness. I have some thin hatchets, and they come up short in several areas.

I also have RD knives which are really good pieces, but I can't imagine that this would be a good hatchet/axe without the pronounced wedge shaped head. I question its use as a combat hawk as the handle doesn't appear to have good reversible grip.

i've had one for about 2 years now. of coarse it was made by justin before he had ontario take over his production. i love it. i keep it in my trunk. imo there's better choices for actual wood work at .25 but it will get the job done. the edge is a little obtuse but its supposed to be because its more of a mini all purpose entry tool capable of taking on steel and concrete.

back then there was only one model and thats the one with the spike. that spike is serious and id advise keeping that in the back of your mind when swinging it or it'll end up in the front of your mind literally. like all ranger stuff its really tough, a big bang for the buck and guaranteed forever no questions asked.

I got one for sale in the for sale area, same design as a rd hawk. but larger it has the 16inch straight handle, larger blade four inch cutting edge, and is 5/16inch thick, This is a beast of an axe, I also has an RD 4 and RD 9 and was very impressed, just got an afgan from ontario and its impressive too.

I've had an RD Hawk since they first came out. It's a very strong hawk and the spike is mean. Used to carry it in my car when I had one as a rescue tool. Have split many a log with it too. Doesn't chop as good as larger hawks but does pretty good for it's size.
