Oosic Handled Bowie

Offered for sale is this Oosic handled Bowie. The Blade is Cruforge V, 10 and 1/4 inches long. The handle is oosic that is 5 inches long. The oosic was left as natural in shape and color as possible. The fittings are 416 stainless with a silicon bronze spacer. Both the guard and the bronze spacer have a mirror polished groove. The sheath was hand tooled and stitched by me.

Price: $500.00 includes shipping and insurance in the continental USA.

This handle was almost solid bone. I left it just a bit larger than the spacer and butt cap then rounded the corners. Some call it a bull nosed handle. Since this is a natural material it is possible that the Oosic may shrink over time.(no pun intended) By slightly over sizing the handle you have effectively negated shrinkage.

This process works well with other types of bone as well as stag.

I'm fairly familiar with shrinkage, and would hate to see the handle shrink to the size of a baby carrot when submersed in cold water. Is this a concern? :) Sorry, can't control it.
 
That is an excellent looking piece. Very clean lines and very classy!
 
All joking aside, Oosic was thought of as the ultimate handle material by the Vikings for their knives and swords. It seems when they were slaughtering each other there was a problem with the sword handles getting slippery from all the blood and slipping out of there hands in the middle of a battle. Oosic was used for the best sword handles because even when running with the blood of your enemies it did not get slippery. Just a little useless trivia.
