Hi,

I have a Opinel Folder and I had to wash it.But now I'm having dificult to open and close. What can I do?

Thanks

I sprayed the pivot area with a LITTLE WD-40, as it helps displace moisture, and set in in the sun (hope it's shining where you live:cool: ) for an hour, and it was good to go.

Hit the nail on the head. However, if it is a CS version, be on the look out for rust in the pivot. Every Opinel I get, I blast the lock up area with teflon gun oil. It makes it alittle harder to open/close but it seems to help keep moisture out of the wood.

It's also a good idea to put some linseed oil in the pivot area of any Opinel. The wood naturally swells when wet and linseed oil will help the situation.

youcan also bake it in the oven. 250 deg, on a cookie sheet. it will remove all or most of the moisture from the wood. be careful, it will be hot hot when you take it out (5-10 mins)

I love my Opinels and have been using them every morning for about 3 weeks now to cut up peaches for breakfast (my wife got a big box of peaches). The Opinel No. 9, that I honed to razor sharpness is excellent for this. After cutting the jucie peaches I wash it out with hot water, including rinsing out the pivot point, where the blade is attached to the wood. It swells every time after, sometimes to the point that it needs assistance with pliers to open the next day, but most of the time not, it's just stiffer to open. Wetting frequently has not hurt it in any way. I live in a very dry climate here however, so within a few days, no matter how wet it was it shrinks back to an easier opening state. Actually, I prefer harder opening Opinels, 'cause some of them get kinda loose and open too easily (and don't remained locked closed) after much use. As standard practice now I put a lot of boiled linseed oil (BLO, you can get it at Wal-Mart or other paint depts) into the pivot to help seal it up.
