So I bought a SIG556, and I want an intermediate range scope for it, I like the ACOG but have a hard time justifying the price, as I will only be punching paper with it, I have an EOTech on my M4 already which I like but I kind of want a BDC reticle, any suggestions?

ACOG's are nice albeit pricey optics, i like them a lot but its hard for me to justify the cost on them too.

People will blast me with the "it's cheap Chinese junk" arguement but I would suggest the same one I am setting up on my .223 build. Yes...it is Chinese and yes, it is fairly inexpensive but it is not "cheap" and definitely is not junk. These are the AR-15 Tactical Scopes from Centurion Tactical Gear. These offer BDC turrets, a variety of power ranges, illuminated reticules, very well made QD mounts, and a lifetime warranty. While my AR was being given a hair cut and having the carrying handle removed I put one of these on my FN/FAL figuring if it would perform with the recoil from the .308 it wouldn't be bothered by the .223 in the AR. I ran every test I run with a new scope including shooting several boxes with it, taking it off an putting it back on probably a dozen times without loss of zero, etc.The BDC adjustments seem to be spot on but I haven't checked them at long range but the raise the bullet impact the correct amounts at 100 yards (only range I have readily available to me at this time) This is a quality scope. I used the 1.5X4 power scope as this will be a SD rifle for me, set at 1.5 with the illumination on it is like using a red dot and 4 power is sufficient for the target sizes it is intended for at longer ranges. Also at 1.5 power I can look through the body of the scope and use the iron sights easily. The QD mount is very repeatable and very fast to remove and at the same time is very secure. I did a more complete review of this scope last year in this forum explaining the way I tested it. You can look at Centurion's offerings here... http://www.centurion-tactical-gear.com/AR-15-Scope-s/380.htm

I went with the mil dot...with the BDC built into the turret I wanted the simplest crosshairs I could get.

Is that the one you have had for a while now? Do you know if it is waterproof or fog resistant yet?

I have some decent glass but can't really afford nor need top of the line for everything, especially a little Beretta Storm that is begging for some sort glass or red dot.

i've been thinking of sticking one of those on my AK74, just for grins, it did have an aimpoint on it but i put that on an AR i have and dont wanna spend too much on it, do ya think they are as good (as far as durability) as the tasco propoint? its gonna be 1 of the 2.

It has never fogged but I will say I haven't had it out all day in the rain either. It has been out in rather muggy weather tho without any problems. As far as durability it handled the time spent on my FN/FAL without a hitch. It will get shot quite a bit more this summer on my lightweight AR build. Timing of the purchase of the scope kinda happened in my slow shooting season...it was coming on late fall I think and I don't get out nearly as much in the winter. And the scope has been in the hands of my gunsmith so he could find the proper scope base height when he shaved the carrying handle of the upper.

Centurion places a lifetime warranty on these scopes, and they have a great reputation for standing behind that warranty. The couldn't afford to do this if they were selling junk. It was not that long ago the people thought if it came out of Japan it had to be junk and look around your house today, I am sure you have quite a few large ticket items made in Japan in your house. This is where China is today...they are making good quality goods, excellent in many cases. Yes there is junk being made just as every country makes junk at times but these scopes are an example of quality at a good price I feel.

Thanks for the info.

Not to be a stickler but it actually was about 40 years ago or more that Japan was looked at that way. :D
