Order times...and a comment.

I'm currently contemplating ordering one of the Battle Rat knives. I've looked over the forum, and have found some comments regarding delivery times, but I'd like to know a more up-to-date answer? What is the average time it takes to send a knife that is ordered? I'm pretty much just intrested in the Battle Rat, but giving an overall time-frame for the complete line may help with others wondering this.

These knives do look truly exciting, and I do know one thing for sure; when I do finally get one, I'll be sure to run it through the paces....and take pictures of it all! I know how nice it is at times to see some real user shots of blades in action. I'm just shocked to see so few here. Excluding Eric of course, but he doesn't count! :p

I've been out of the blade collecting phase for many years now, and I'm just getting back into it. I must say, there's been some intersting advancements, and some very cool products introduced. I'm glad to see that there's a sea of possiblities just waiting for me. I'm also glad to have found the Blade Forums as well, as it's been an invaluable source of information for catching up on things, and possibly meeting some great people. :D

Just to be fair, I'm going to be working on purchasing a Becker Tool & Machine BK9 Bowie before the Battle Rat, mainly because it's an interesting-looking piece, and the price is certainly cheap enough for a quick addition to my collection. As soon as I've got the money saved up though (or someone convincingly pursuades me to wait a bit and get the Rat first :p), the Battle Rat will also be taking a place in my collection...and on my trips into the outdoors! I'll be sure to let you all know of my reactions to this blade.

Here's to all of you, and to the great world of knives! :D

You won't be dissatisfied. I have a Howling Rat that I've on several deer so far and it works great. A Bandicoot arrived yesterday and I can already tell I'm gonna love it.

I have all rats. The best knife I have owned is by far the CT. I like the BR, very brutish, but the CT is the 'all rounder ' for me.

I have Beckers too, excellent value for money.

But, if you want my honest opinion, the rats have advantages over the other when cost to performance is weighed.

Welcome to the BF swamp brother!!!

BTW, you might find some more user pics over at the big swamp ~ have fun!

Hey Dave, the Coot is sweet hey!

Andrew.... Welcome to the Swamp

I'd email Eric.... I'd almost bet they have one or two in stock... You never know what they use for a door stop:p

Thanks for the greetings guys!

I've seen your collection, gundy, and the pic you posted here was a pretty good one. Are you sure you've even used those? They still look pretty shiny and new to me. :D

I'm probably looking at anywhere from 2-4 weeks before I'll be able to order a Battle Rat, if that's what I decide to go with, before the Becker, so it's not like I need it to be in stock right now, but I did want to get a good idea of what the average delivery times were ahead of time.

Of course, being somewhat of an avid blade forums reader, I've been roaming around the Camillus forums as well. It's interesting to read the comparisons drawn between the Beckers, and the Busse knives. After reading over hundreds of posts, I have to agree with the one person who had the best view overall; ' It just seems to me that we spend too much time with the "my father can beat up your father" crap and not enough time praising and admiring the obvious: we are blessed with a smorgasboard of GREAT knives from many great men, women, and companys, that can all be recommended without hesitation for most peoples needs. Do you like the Busse?-BUY IT! Do you like the Becker?-BUY IT! Do you like that Livesay?-BUY IT! Hey, do you prefer TOPS?-BUY IT! etc. ad nauseum. '

That's definitely one of the best thoughts I saw regarding the whole hobby of knife collecting. Realistically, anyone who buys more than, say, 4-5 knives is not just strictly a user. Admit it, some of these blades are simply works of art, and we can't help just sitting and admiring the beauty of these creations.

Myself, I mainly stick to collecting/using large blades, with an emphasis on the 'survival' knives. I admit it, Rambo really had an effect on me, and I do enjoy still finding good production, or custom-made hollow-handled survival knives. While the market for these is very thin now, I'm working on bringing my collection more up to date with selected Ebay purchases. It's amazing sometimes what you'll find there.

That being said, I am thoroughly enjoying collecting some of the large camp/utility knives to be found these days. It's simply amazing the quality that can be had for much lower prices than I can remember a few years back. Needless to say, it's a great time to be investing in tools that will last a lifetime.

Cheers! :D

Andrew W,
Welcome to the Swamp, glad you stopped by.

As far as delivery time for the Battle Rat we are looking at about 3-6 weeks. We just sold out of another batch but should have some more done soon. I'll try to update the forums when I have a better time frame as we have a lot of interest for Christmas gifts or buying one with Christmas Money. ;):D:D

You are right there are a lot of good knives out there, including the Beckers. Like many people here, I've tried many of them.

I'll try to get some more pics up soon of some knives in use. :D:D

oh I use em baby, but you see, I have a SET of users, and a SET of queenies!;)

Thanks for the information Eric, it's muchly appreciated. :)

Right at this point, I'm a bit at a standstill on what to get next. Of course, having to shop for Christmas is still a minor concern, as I got most of that done back in August. ;)

Another question I have regarding the SwampRat knives is, do you offer any type of custom sheath for it, mainly, something in a tactical sense? I have my trusty hand-made Robert Parish 8" survival knife that I've owned for years, and the tactical sheath that came with it has been simply awesome. I love that it rides lower down your leg, and is a boon to me when loaded with a heavy pack, and a climbing belt.

Any chance that you offer sheaths of this nature, or does anyone who is reading this thread, know of somone who can do this type of sheath for these knives?

Oh, and by the way...what's all this I hear about a sword being offered?...

:D

Andrew W
Here's a picture of the Sheath that comes standard with the Battle Rat and Camp Tramp. It is a kydex lined cordura sheath with an expandable front utility pocket. We don't offer any custom sheaths at this time.
