The Oregon Knife Collector's Association's annual big show in Eugene, Oregon is coming up, April 15 and 16. This year, it'll be bigger than ever before. This is an _All Knife_ show and mostly custom and/or highly collectible stuff.

While I don't think we can get any formal balisong manipulation contests onto the agenda this year, maybe next.

So, who's going? I certainly am. This show is a bit of a must for me. I'd love to meet any of you who will be coming.

No, tables at this show are available only for custom makers and dealers in collectible knives. There'll be a couple or three larger retailers with remarkably small tables selling current production stuff. A few of the local manufacturers such as Benchmade will have remarkably small exhibits. But, this is not a trade show. It's very much a show about custom knives and collectible knives. It's really a great opportunity to meet people, custom makers, etc. In this respect, it's a great show.

If any of you are coming, let's get together.

I've actually been thinking about flying in for this. IN Saturday morning, and OUT Sunday night. Something has been telling me (since the first time I saw this post) that this would be a GOOD thing to do.

Problem..... the only flights I've found so far for that time are on MD-80's. You know, the "Plummet from the sky" type planes.

I'm coming up from Medford, Chuck - I'd love to meet you - and please don't hold it against me for being an ex-UPS driver !

Seriously though, I'm coming up to take delivery of a small bowie directly from Audra Draper. Really looking forward to it. I haven't been up since about '95, but even then, IMO nowhere else in the northwest could you meet and hang out with such true celebrities of the knife world.

I hope that you, Chuck, as our moderator and the reigning king of all collectors, will be kind enough to give us a full report, complete with photos and other drool-worthy tidbits. And not just 'It was great. We had fun.'

Seriously, I'd really love to see pictures of custom balis, their makers, and know how many kidneys I'm going to have to sell. Wouldn't it be great if Fred Perrin were there?

Oh book the flight, Clay. Most of those MD80s have been throughly inspected by now. Besides:

In the unlikely event that the airplane falls out of the sky and into the ocean, don't worry. Be happy. Your seat back can be used for floatation!

In the unlikely event that a huge chunk of the plane rips off mid-flight, don't worry. Be happy. For those of you who are not sucked out and into the engines, oxygen masks will appear from a compartment above your head. Simply place the mask over your nose and mouth. This will muffle your screams!

Now, sit back, relax, and enjoy your flight.

If you really want to get SERIOUS about the Oregon show, it is open to members (only) on Friday April 14. You can join at the door ($20) or by mail -- check out http://www.oregonknifeclub.org for details.

If you really really REALLy want to get serious, you could move here, like I did.

As to transportation, some of the United flights from Calif to eUgene are on 4-engine BAE turboprops. Also, Alaska Airlines flies some of its 24-seat wind-up-the-big-rubber-band-and-help-pedal planes to Eugene from Seattle and Portland.

Also Amtrak stops here (once a day), not to mention Greyhound, Interstate 5 (exit 194B), Hiway 99, and for the really adventurous (and/or impecunious) SP freight trains go right through the middle of downtown.

Bernard,

I asked Oregon Show chairman Dennis Ellingsen about having demonstrations of balisong manipulation at the April Show. He said, Okay -- tie 'em in with the martial arts demonstrations.

So, if you're gonna be there, and want to show off your stuff, get hold of me or Dennis ASAP, and we'll shoehorn you into the schedule.

Gerome,

J6. I'll make a point of stopping by. So, bring a balisong and be ready to show off.

Bernard,

That is an excellent opportunity. I've asked Clay if you'd be willing to participate.
