OT: Biker Leanings--a diary

Ducs are nice bikes...even if they are not black cruisers ;)

I started riding on "two wheels" in 1969 and didn't own an automobile until 1976. Because I am basically short ( 5 foot 2 inches ), everything I rode was a "rice burner", usually in the 350cc class. My first big bike was a Yamerhamer 650, one of those semi cruisers that came out in the mid 80s that were very low in the seat.

However, in 1997 I decided that enough was enough and spent some money having the seat and suspension on a BMW R100R (yes, a very big Boxter) lowered and tuned for yours truly. It is a truly nice "Black and Silver Road Cruiser" and I have never regreted the money or time I needed to learn to ride such a large machine. Still got my "baby", though she doesn't get to roar all that often!

The only other thing I really would like to find is cherry Royal Enfield, circa 1960s. :D

I too ride a "very big boxter"....a BMW R1150R. Nice bike, though I'd like even more power. It is putting 75HP to the rear wheels now. BMW's are pretty refiined bikes and a pleasure to ride.

A few American friends here in Italy have some of the older Ducatis in mint condition, and they sure are. I like them more than most of the Enfglish bikes, but not as much as Harleys...

They are certainly one of the *elite* bikes on the road...were I ever to start thinking again that I was invincible and would live forever, a built Duc would be under me.
