Help please. My job provides me with a free email account that has given me problems from time to time and it is always a real ordeal to get anything straightened out with them. My email is down again, has been for nearly a week now. I tried to get them to fix it and what they tried did not work, I get emails generated from work locations, but nothing outside now. I have had it. So what is the best email provider? Hotmail? Yahoo? Something else? If anyone has tried to email me, I am sorry. I will change the info in my profile to the new email account when I get one.

I have a Yahoo mail account. No probs. with that. I found that Hotmail had all sorts of unwanted spam etc.

I agree - hotmail.com accounts seem to get lots of junk-mail (plus they have had security problems). yahoo would be better; also www.thepostbox.co.uk provides 6mb of space for free which is more than most.

A buddy of mind pointed this one out.

Anyhow, here's the buddies endorsement:

"I thought I'd pass this message on. I use this provider for my web page and they're one of the best I've found. Unlimited everything (within reason) and $30 a years is incredible! That's half what I paid! I'm thinking of getting another one of these accounts and letting the $59 a year one go. I don't get any kind of kickback from this or anything (not even any free months). I just thought you folks might be interested."

Thanks, George.

I have used Netscape's free email service for years and have had zero problems and zero spam. They give you 5MB of storage. Drawback? One, Netscape adds a little advertisement of their own at the bottom of your emails.
YMMV

Good luck,

I use Yahoo.com email. You can download up to 3 attachments per email and if you receive an attachment on your email, you can scan it for viruses using their software, which is a huge advantage in my book. With the email acct., there are several other options like picture hosting and so on. Well worth it, even if you only use it for a secondary acct.

As a bunch of Hotmail customers just found out, if you are not a paying customer the provider can change the rules at any time without penalty. That includes dumping your saved messages or just deciding to not offer the service anymore. I had Hotmail for several years but I noticed that even though I almost never used the account compared to the one provided by my ISP I got twice the spam, including very agressive and explicit porn ads at the Hotmail address. I finally dumped the account with Hotmail. I may sign up for free email again someday, but I won't ever depend on it always being there or working the way I want it to.
