I am making my first forge. I am following Chiro75's tutorial for the paint can forge. I decided to use stove pipe material, since it seemed a little stiffer.

I know, don't handle sheet metal without gloves. I can hear my grandfather now, you are not an expert, use gloves!!!!

I used my gloves while cutting it. I am just going to slide the pieces together..... :o

OUCH!!!!!!!! $%#$% &%$M( *&^% ()+&% (^&%$& and any other words you can think of!!!! Sliced through the palm of my hand. It could use stitches, but the super glue is holding.......At least there is no tendon involvement.

I am going to go finish......

ouchie :(

dang Dave .....
pictures

you can't just leave us hanging in the air with just text

I know I'm morbid  :D

You are a sick man.

I just re-glued it and changed the bandage.

I will paint you a picture.....low center of the palm, about 1 3/4 inches long, slight curve (I was holding an 8 ingh tube), deep enough to bleed like a stick pig, but not deep enough to cut tendons. Serrated cut from the sheet metal.

Those jagged gashes take a bit to heal. Maybe you could duct tape a piece of that sheet metal to your palm for protection while it heals. yup :D

You ghouls need professional help!! :D

The super glue is holding well. It is starting to bruise a little. The cut is in the crease of my palm near my thumb, so it shouldn't scar bad. I know you all really care about that!!! :D

A knifemaker wears his scars like war medals. :)

The best thing about superglue is that it not only seals the wound, but any anaerobic bacteria that may get into a cut, like tetanus, for example, get a nice, warm, air-free environment to play and multiply in. If your jaw starts to lock up in a couple days you may want to go to the ER. Too bad you didn't have the forge furher along because you could have just got it hot and cauterized the wound right then and there, Rambo style. :D

I've worked with quite a bit of sheet metal over the years, and that stuff will cut you faster than any knife will.
There's a lot of fine crap that has to do with your fingers working correctly, etc., located in your palm. If it's deep, I'd go have it looked at.

if you can use your toes like me who needs two hands anyway.. :)

I'm one for not getting sewn up as often as I should,
I do make sure I'm up on my tetanus shots.
I clean the hell out of deep cuts and if it's going to slow me down
I'll bite the bullet and get it sewn up..and of course take them out myself.
the last 4-5 times I didn't bother with the Novocain it's only a prick going in
and back out the skin anyway, the shots hurt worse and it heals better with out it. and besides it makes the nurses squirm.. :D
the c@@L factor

if it gets hot , red, swelled up, or a red line headed for your heart,
you may want to have it looked at. :) soon

ripping it back open to fix it is not to cool

Thanks for the tips. I am in the medical profession. It was cleaned very well and looked at before I glued it. It is healing nicely, no red, no pus, no problems with hand and finger manipulations.

As long as the cut is clean, I have had no problems with glue. I have carried it in my workout bag for years.

Tetanus shot is up to date. Did that last year using a rusty "yard knife" to repot some bonsai. Don't repot trees and drink!!!
