Typing with one finger, I managed to knock the last 1/8" of my thumb off grinding at high speed today. It is the most painful thing I have experienced in a while... the bleeding has stopped and it is time for a drink and a break... I mean another drink, lol! ouch!!!!!

Sorry to hear that, Daniel. On a lighter note, when I mentioned it to Jan, she said, "He has no thumb left?!". Get it? The last 1/8 inch? Sadly, she was not joking. Women! LOL.

Hope you get better soon.

I wondered about the other 7/8ths too!

Ice that beast and kepp it elevated, my friend. Perhaps head to the pub and give the tender your thumbs up when he looks your way. :D

I managed to stick a 1200 deg. knife point into my finger yesterday so I know what you mean. Grinder accidents suck though, gotta stay careful. Get better soon!

Sorry to hear that Daniel. Hopefully it will heal real soon.
With your grinding hand off for holiday, you can do more of designing/concept work for a while. I'm sure with some brew involved you'll come up with some crazy things! :D

ouch man, stay safe.. don't push yourself, mistakes happen too quick... hopefully you cleaned that bitch up real good, painful cleaning it, but must be done, then just ice it and wrap it.. obviously avoid banging it DOH... depending how deep the center is, you might need more attention, be smart. drugs help. peace out

He's too drunk to post.
:D
Damn near spewed green tea all over my keyboard for the upteenth time . . . . . :D
Daniel, hope all is well and heals quickly. I ran a 1" splinter of treated decking under my thumbnail last summer, longest 45 minute ride to the hospital to have it cut out in my life. I'll raise a Corona to you with good thoughts tomorrow buddy. . . .
"Be safe."

I feel your pain. I did the exact same thing a few weeks ago. I was doing some stock removal with 40 grit, and bam. It hurt like hell the next few days. It still hasn't healed all the way, but on the bright side I haven't had to trim my thumb nail yet haha.

Thanks guys, the responses really made me feel better. You guys have me laughing. It was the first 1/8" I don't even know why i worded it that way.

No gory pics but you know it is bad when your facesheild is splattered with blood. Of course I cleaned it up before I left the shop, lmao!!!

I woke up after about 12 hours of sleep and it does not feel as bad as I expected.

I have ground my finger down badly a few times and that hurts but usually does not stop my day...

What happened is that I had the KMG on top speed with a used 280 gator belt on it, I slipped while grinding some flats and pushed my thumb into the grinder so hard and at an angle that it actually slowed down the grinder... it knocked the end of my thumb all the way off with almost no abrasion.

I put it back on after an iodine cleaning. No joke, at one point I think it was the most painful thing I have experienced and I have had a compound fracture.

I'm going to have to rest today, no right thumb to use lol. I am ahead though! yesterday I pretty much finished the sheaths for the Ti Bottle Opener run! I got hurt while grinding the flats on a S7 poon tip, I profiled 3 in 5/16" and 2 in 1/8" along with 3 others a lot like them but smooth tipped.

Blood on the tracks, it's not just my second favorite Bob Dylan album!
