Well the SalmonBerries have now all but gone and tasty Thimbleberries have taken their place~

The Huckleberries are still abundant although this is one Huckleberry bush that's safe from me, it was about 15 ft up in the air growing out of an old Douglas Fir !

The recent thread about Truncating got me thinking today, you can Truncate the parts for the Promontory peg deadfall, just go half way through on opposite sides and snap in two ~

Here are two variations of the trap that I thought up today to save having to run a bait line the length of the deadfall. This means it is far easier to make when using long deadfall weights such as fallen trees etc.
The first one is to suspend bait from the trigger stick, I didn't have any so used a pinecone for demonstration purposes~

And the second uses a small bait stick, you could stick a berry on either end of this ~

Speaking of berries I noticed the Arbutus berries are starting to develop. Native Americans ate the berries, but because the berries have a high tannin content and are thus astringent, they more often chewed them or made them into a cider.
