awhile back a buddy of mine got an edge pro. my sebenza was on the dull side and when he offered to sharpen it i said sure.

he finishes up and this is what he hands me :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

he's since offered to make it right, so no worries.

i showed this to a few knife people and forum members. the response has ranged from laughter, spontaneous vomiting, and "i will have nightmares after seeing that"

Your friend probably thought the knife was only worth $50, so he's proud of that edge. I would just buy another blade from CR if you don't like it.

nope he full knows the value. like i said he is making this right.

and im not sure if CRK would do a reblade (since this is a regular)

Ouch! That is an expensive mistake. It almost looks like that is a classic blade on a regular. But that is probably due to the sharpen job. Give em' a call..They might be able to help you out? Maybe at least fit it with a classic blade. classic blade>no blade.

Ouch
It goes to show that there is a learning curve, even with the EP

I got lucky and figured out the EP easily. I haven't messed up a blade yet.

Still I would be hesitant to tackle someone else's Sebenza.

Sebs are hard to sharpen evenly with any guided rod system due to the lack of a distilled taper , much thicker at the tip and need a steeper angle after the belly to keep a uniform edge . I only use my sharpmaker now on my sebs because I doubt my skill level to change angles towards the tip and blend it in ....

Man, I learned to sharpen with an edgepro on my sebenza, here is a pic of the edge. Not challenging at all.

Sorry to say but your friend cant make that right. That is a sad site to see.

I would send it in for a new blade myself and learn to sharpen.

BTW, I am not trying to act like I am wonderful for being able to use an edgpro. I just want you to know it is actually VERY easy and your buddy made a big mistake imo. If I was your friend and I did that I would offer to pay for a new blade. Even if I was sharpening it for free in the first place. I hope it works out. I realize my first post was kinda harsh but so is that sharpening job and it kinda made my nerves go a little on edge.

I edge proed my xm and my cousins umnum. Ide be lying if I said I wasn't sweating a bit with nerves though.

This is why Im scared to sharpen my expensive blades on my ep. So far I haven't sharpened a knife on my ep that cost over $150. Most of the time all of the knives turn out perfect. But every once in a while Ill scratch them up and I have no idea why.

GASP.

I've seen some edge pro nightmares, but that ones a winner. A stonewash then a sharpening could make it LOOK better, but the top just doesn't look all that salvageable. Sigh.

Yeah the suprise scratches are a bitch. The key to eliminating that was using less water on stones and keeping everything clean throughout the process

Nightmares. At least you don't have to worry about messing it up when practicing freehand sharpening.
