Hi everyone,
Could someone help me out by posting picts of the Karambit in tip-down edge out grip (how you would normally hold a Karambit), and forward grip please (if possible) ? I apologize if my knowledge of knife-grip terms are somewhat elementary
I am seriously considering getting the Karambit. While I would go check them out personally, the stores where I live are somewhat limited in the selection of the knives they carry.
I already tried searching for posts/picts about the Karambit and I got the "Page Could Not Be Displayed" window.
Many thanks.
CHeers!

Took these very quickly the other day, just to show another member the size of the knife...

bad quality pictures inside! :)

I've never owned a knife that would drink my own blood as readily as the spydie kerambit, it loves not the hand that wields it. still it's a wonderful knife, very well suited for the pukulan style of serat (if you're a player, of course!)

The Karambit is one of my favourite Spyderco's.
I read various reviews prior to purchasing one, and the results were mixed, which made me second guess my decision. However, since recieving it, I absolutley love it's design, aesthetics, and functionality. It's extremely thin, and has an ultra sharp blade, that is definately aggressive in appearance, and undeniably "bloodthirsty".
When rotating between extended grips, and retracted grips, take precaution.
Another feature to take note of, is that the karambit ride's high when clipped in the pocket, yet this makes it easy to retrive, as the finger ring is the part which protrudes, and all it takes is a slip of the finger through the ring, and then an upward pull.

Some individuals, did not favour the curvature of the blade, as it is a very tight arc, and those with large hands may find it to be too tight, as well as the finger ring can be too small for some, however I have small hands, and I do not have a problem with the design at all, and quite like the blade's curvature.

The other area raised in several reviews, was the ability to open the knife, one-handed, in reverse grip, as it is a little awkward, and difficult to do with out using two hands. This I must agree with, however in forward grip, this is not a problem. Some have rectified the reverse grip opening, by using a zip-tie, in order to "wave" the karambit open, which was successful, yet can be hazardous, in that it can open within the pocket. When combined with the high riding height, makes for an extremely fast draw, by just slipping your finger through the ring, and with an upward draw, the blade will snap open, and into play by the time the knife is free of the pocket.

Overall, it's an excellent knife, and if you are into karambit's, then this is a must have in my opinion, and even if you are not, it is a must have in order to complete anyone's collection. I even plan to purchase a second, or maybe even a thrid, I like them that much.

I do have one general question, and hope that anyone may be able to answer.
I'd be interested to know how successful the Spyderco Karambit is overall ?
As I truely love this knife, and I hope that it will be a permanent item within Spyderco's product line, and hope that it is successful enough to warrant a new variation of the karambit, and maybe even new future models to be released in time.
I like it that much, definately hope that the karambit is not discontinued from the Spyderco line altogether, and I'm curious to know how others feel about the karambit, and if they think that it should be a continued product ?

Wow! Thanks for all your replies

Just wondering, would it be possible to grip the karambit in a forward grip? If possible, would the pinky be in an awkward position inside the ring? Many thanks. After reading your posts I am now leaning toward the Karambit (my other choice was the ATR). :D

Cheers!

It's definately possible to use the karambit in forward grip, and it is infact, as all karambits are, suited to be used in forward, and reverse grips, and both retracted, and extended.

I personally would choose the Karambit over the ATR, but then again I am bias, since I have an interest in MA, and thus favour knives which are effective when applied to SD purposes. However both are fine Spydie's, and you are sure to be happy with either one. :)
