Is this any good for knife handles I have never used it and cannot recall ever seeing it on a knife. This has a definate orange/red color, but the grain didn't seem to stand out.
A local wood worker has a 1.25in X 1.25in peice about 4 feet long he's trying to sell me.
please post some pictures of what this wood "can or should" look like.

RD, I think you would like it...Nice bright colors, works well, traditionaly used for tool handles...

Has a bit of a chatoyance (sp?) when polished...Gives the illusion of depth...Also has a nice texture...

Red and orange bands without much figure...I would love to see some burl

Padauk is considered one of the best woods for flooring you can buy...very hard surface. It is about the weight of domestic hardwoods...a little heavier, but not like cocobolo. From the specs I've seen it is also very stable. I have some and it is very beautiful. I have a piece of it that is "curly" that I am holding for that one knife! IMO, good stuff.

RD I've used red padauk on several knives and have had wonderful results. It is a lighter wood, but holds up great. One customer had a "tigger" facination. Cross-cut red padauk looked like tiger stripes. He loved it. Have fun
