Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I fugured someone here would probably know the answers to my questions. Is it possible to make paper micarta from the pages of a book? Would you be able to see letters after you sanded it? Does anyone have any suggestions for making some at home?
Thanks,

Yes you can do it. Just remember that when you grind it you will be grinding layers (pages) off in part. It's not a crazy idea. There used to be a rumor that the little wedges of paper that the makers in Japan used as spacers in the wrap were pages from a prayer book. It wasn't true but I thought it would be interesting to use Japanese writing on a handle. I used a menu from a Japanese resturant and lamanated 3/4 of it with marine resin. The remaining 1/4 was with clear epoxy. You could read through it but to be honest it looked like something you'd see for $14.95 from Smokey Mountain Knifeworks. Remember that after sanding you have to buff with something very fine. I used glass polishing compound from NAPA.
Good luck!
