Paperstone = ?

I just picked up a 112 with Paperstone handle slabs. This is a very nicely done knife, and I really like the fact Buck included a metal liner - it really adds support to the blade.

My question is, what exactly is Paperstone? Is it similar to paper micarta? Is it resistant to solvents and all the other nasty stuff a working knife might come in contact with?

Thanks in advance!

From what I understand it is paper pulp formed using a form of resin, kind of like MDF with glue, this is paper and resin. I was hesitant as to how durable it would be until I googled it and found out that it is commonly used for cell phone bodies and kitchen counter tops, when I thought of the abuse a counter top takes in a single day I knew the stuff had potential. I have EDC'd my Paperstone Vantage for months now (this is my food prep and light duty knife), and it has held up very well, I have rounded some of the high spots down with wear but its still in one piece.

We had this before, try searching 'paper stone'. However, its recycled pressed cardboard with resin and dye. Not micarta. I have one and its come into contact with oils with no affect. DM
