This one was designed and commissioned by Jorgen Wallgren in Singapore and ships in the morning.
It sports a dagger grind with swedge. The blade is mirrored S30V 8" hollow ground. Heat treat by Paul Bos. The handle is black line spalted maple burl stabilized by WSSI with a dark blue liner for accent. The bolster has been dovetailed. Lots of subtle detail in the design and my determination to get a very symmetrical knife that made it one of the toughest I've ever made. It took me three attempts on the grind to get it where I wanted it. The first two went in the trash.
Thanks for looking....

That's a very nice piece, Tracy. The "failures" are ok; your grinding skillset grew on this one, always a good thing!

Thanks for sharing.

Thats the best Ive seen from You Tracy. There is no looking back now that You can do a grind like this one. Very cool knife!

Now that's just beautiful. Really nice swedge/stiletto, great shape, and the burl is gorgeous and fits it really well. If I ever needed a dagger, I'd come see ya. :D I love you work, keep it up!

Nice. But I've got to ask ...why is it called a 'parachute dagger'?

Remember that American kid some years back ...that got publicly 'caned' (beat with a stick in the town square) in Singapore for something like 'spitting in a no spitting zone'?

I wonder what they do to you there if they catch you with the 'parachute dagger'? :)

Very nice Tracy. Those combo grinds are something I've been wanting to try. Awesome! BTW, whrer did you get the skull slide on the lanyard cord? I'd love to have some made like that of a boar or boar's head.

Thank you guys. I really appreciate your comments.

The skull came from a bead shop in Fargo, ND. It was filled with women and hippies. I wish I had more of them so I'm going to start hitting bead shops around where I live now.

This knife had to be called a sport knife on the shipping documentation to Singapore and the skull had to be removed and shipped seperately. The SWEDGE was left just a little thick so there was no way it could have been called a dagger. This was all just to get past customs. My client knew exactly what had to be done get it through. I didn't have a clue.

In WWII, there were at least some paratroopers that were issued knives similar to this one, small, symmetrical, often double edged to paratroopers to cut parachute lines if they ever got tangled in the fall or if they got hung up in a tree.

Sport knife ...LOL! That's a good one. I suppose they don't notice that it looks remarkably like a boot dagger :)

Anyways, it's funny that they would even care what 'kind' of knife it is, as I'd always pictured the Far East as being a place absolutely loaded with assorted cutlery ...a knife/sword shop on every corner, if you will.

Very nice ! One day my grinds will be that clean *crosses fingers*
That maple is awesome , question though , how thick is that bad boy ?
also I thought it funny that you had to take the skull off for shipping , I am curious for what reason , must be a Singapore thing ?
Anyways , nice job :)

What!!! ...There's 'hippies' (and woman!) in North Dakota??? I didn't see any hippies (and very few woman) in the movie 'Fargo' ... :)

Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if the skull bead is of biker origin, as they have a big run up there every year ...at least they used to.

The blade was 5/32" or close to that I think. I forget to include that every time I post one of these things. The Singapore customs people are a little more anal about threats to society than we are and the skull was changed the tone of the knife from sport knife to something more than that. We removed it just to be safe.

I grew up in Fargo and then moved back there twice as an adult. The movie Fargo is a fairly accurate portrayal of a composite of people I knew. When I watched that movie for the first time I was mad for the first 30 minutes and then I realized it was pretty close and I had to start laughing.
Oh jeez....

Hi all!

If I am not wrong, the American kid did much more than spitting. He vandalized property. This could be a long and heated discussion, so I leave it at that.

Regarding the knife. In Singapore- double edge knives, automatics, balisongs are illegal. This knife has a single edge and it's declared sports knife because that's how I will use it. Small utility knife when I go jungle tracking, fishing and for other outdoor activities.

I think the skull is cool but it can give people, not involved in the knife community, the wrong impression. Here I don't need any self defence weapons and this knife is purly to be used as a utility knife.

Then in general I personally feel we have rather good knife laws here. I can basically carry any size of blade, as long as I have a very good reason for doing so. If I am driving, on the way going fishing, not a problem. However, if I have a 6" blade on me when I go to the pub- the intent usage can for sure be discussed! :)

Regards,

Jorgen
