Paracord Handle tying

Hi,
A friend of mine just gave me what he calls a "bowie-hawk" that he made. This thing throws beautifully!!! Its about 18" long and over a pound in weight.

He recommended that I put a tied handle on it. I have no idea what I'm doing here... some help, please.

1) I can get good paracord, but have no idea how to go about tying it and getting the great patterns I have seen. he has put 3 small holes through the handle to facilitate this.

2) Do I have to worry about the weight screwing up how gret this thing throws?

Ideas, folks??

I don't think the weight of the cord will mess the balance up any-- especially on such a large knife.
